I think the advantage of the shouldered cylinders is that they allow the cylinder wall to extend further down into the case. This provides more piston stability at BDC. Less piston skirt protruding from the bottom of the cylinder would help eliminate the tendency of the piston to rock in the bore while at the bottom of the stroke.
Another advantage is that it keeps the cylinder set in place solidly around the shoulder. The flat-bottomed jugs are held in place laterally by way of the four anchor bolts only.

Twins!

Hey fellas, I just put a K&N filter on my new 655 and thought I'd share a pic or two. Many thanks to Ryan for supplying the mounting base for me.

Also, here's an intersting pic of of my P52W case half being stripped. This was taken about ten minutes after application with aircraft paint stripper.

Did you notice any difference with the k&n filter set-up.

I just put that filter on last night. You'll never believe this, but while I was working on the filter, my wife volunteered to strip that case half! I think she's coming around. Anyways, I haven't had a chance to run that grey saw since I put the filter on, but when I ran the black saw it had a really nice intake grunt. I can't say I noticed that it ran better because it had been a while since I'd run it previously.

Brendon.

That's cool...my wife is not interested in the chainsaws, but helps with the yard/garden/canning.

She probably figured that's the only way she could spend time with you. LOL Kidding aside, That's great, I wish my wife would share my "obsession" as she calls it. My 10 year old is starting to show interest though.

I think it probably had more to do with the fact that I told her I'd take her away for the weekend just before that. :) Anyways, it's nice to know that she doesn't see my saws as being repulsive in any way. I know she gets a bit jealous if I spend too much time in the workshop though.

Boyesen Reed order

Guys, last chance this weekend to get a set of Boyesen two-stage reeds. I'm placing the order on Monday. They'll work on the Farmsaws, P40, P50, P60 series as well as Poulan Pro 455, 525 and 655. I'm getting a set for all my 98cc saws.

The price per set will be $25 and that'll cover shipping to anywhere in North America.

Brendon.

Count me in on 1 set. Give me a pm on how to pay.

I will take 4 sets Brendon. Enough for 4 saws.

Nice filter setup on the 655. Looks sweet.

Thanks Lee

I picked up a Pioneer 650 yesterday and plan on doing a pretty thorough restoration on it, where do you get that paint remover? And does anyone know a good source for the two shades of green on the 650?

The stripper I'm using is made in Canada by SMC Specialty Coatings. The product is called Turco 5351. I got it from work but don't know who sells it here. I run the parts through the dishwasher and then immediately apply the stripper, nice and thick. It works better on some paints than others. No problems with it on this saw.

Now that's how a casserole dish should be used! And if you have the missus on board, there's nobody to complain about it!
