I have a Service Bulletin that gives part #s and pictures of the differences, but have never actually seen the older style of piston.

I'd sure like to see that Service Bulletin. Is there some way you could scan it?

Reeds.

Regarding the two-stage reeds, I talked to Boyesen and they said they could make some up if there was enough interest. They'd be around $25/ set. They would probably work on all of the reed valve models. Are any of you guys interested?
Brendon.

Jerry -

Glad you guys got back home in one piece. I really enjoyed the visit last week - it was nice to be able to put a face to the name too. Some luck for you though eh - you get back home and get slammed by the edge of a hurricane!

Still been fairly hot and sunny out here, though the more local forest fires have flared up again so it's ridiculously smoky right now.

Brendon, I was following the same trail and actually took tracings of my reeds for them, but haven't gotten around to sending them in. if you get the ball rolling before me I'd probably be good for a couple sets.

ryan

BTW, I have your cover dug out & boxed up. Should be on it's way Monday.

Boyesen reeds

I've run two stage reeds in the 655 and the older thin ring P61/ P62 models.
You will see an increase in acceleration, the thin ring saws get very snappy throttle response, not as much with the 655 but still noticeable improvement. I don't think you will see any difference at full throttle buried in the wood.

Reeds

Thanks, Ryan. I went looking through my old emails and found the Boyesen info. I sent them a photocopy of a single reed and they told me they definfitely made them at one time. They were two-stage reeds, made of fiberglass. The price is $20.95 per set for them to produce them again.

I'll wait for more guys to chime in if they're interested and get the entire order at once. Let me know, guys.

Good info, Busmech. Thanks. I might have to try a set along with a K&N on my P61 and see how it works. It's pretty snappy already.

Reeds

Here is what they say:

THE BENEFITS
• Easy starting and smoother idling

• Added acceleration

• Throttle response that delivers performance with the snap of the throttle

• Improved engine efficiency providing a broader, smoother powerband

• Increased fuel economy

• Longer reed life

Is anyone interested in a Pioneer 700 model? It's the ungeared model, he says it runs but needs carb work. Best part is, it's only $75 Cdn. I don't know if he ships. No pics available. 107cc's.

P50 to a P60

I read somewhere in this thread that you can put a P60 cylinder/piston on a P50/51. I may have located a P60 cylinder/piston. If the ign. mounts are the same, what other changes are needed? Did all P60s have a compression release, if so can I add a release to the 50.

Cool , i want to do this as well , I have a P51 in bits That wants to be a 60 or 61

The P60 piston and jug will fit right onto the P50. It's the easiest performance mod. A hole can be drilled into your existing shroud to accomodate the compression release.
If your P50 jug is tapped for a compression release but plugged with a bolt then a compression release can be screwed right in. Otherwise, no. Generally, a P50 series Pioneer case will accept any P60 series Pioneer cylinder as long as the proper ignition and flywheel goes with it. Just make sure it's not a later Pioneer/Partner or Poulan Pro cylinder with a shoulder on the bottom. The base of the jug must be flat.
Brendon.

Both of my P50 cylinders have a shoulder on the bottom of them. You say the P60 is completly flat? Will the P50 carb open up enough for the P60 cylinder?

All the P50 series cylinders had a shoulder. The Pioneer P60 cylinders were flat on the bottom. Pioneer/Partner changed the P62 case to accept a new shouldered P62 jug. They must have seen the P50 series shoulder as a good idea.

The old Pioneer cases have a cutout, but only for the P50 sized shoulder, not the new larger P62 shoulder.

I hope that makes sense.

Decal?

Hey Brendon, I believe you were asking about this decal a while back and I think someone posted a photo, but here's an intact one on a P26 I have.

Makes perfect sense, Thanks again
