Checked the float bowl and found all kinds of grit and scale from some where? The float was operating correctly though so I cleaned it out, but still no flow. I'm really thinking I need to start over again with a complete disassembly of the carb. While I have it apart I was wondering what anyone might suggest for cleaning it out or checking in any problem areas.

Thanks for the replies,
Marty
Sounds like you've got some of that gunk up in the carb body. What type float does it have? Some of that grit could have made it into the welch tank. Yep, you'll probably need to tear it down. While you have it open flush out all the ports with carb cleaner. If the idle ports are clogged, you can clean them out with some stiff fine wire (piano wire). Sorry for your troubles.:msp_sad:

Do you still have a filter on the shut off valve?
Are you getting plenty of fuel from the tank?
I get the one gallon can of parts cleaner from Napa auto parts.
Take the carb completely apart and let it soak for a day or two.
them wash it off and blow it dry with compressed air and blow out
the passage ways. Sometime I will spray WD-40 in to the passage
way to see if there all clear.

Thanks for riding in to the rescue, Mr. Bow Saw! Does the 6 run on a Tillotson AJ series? If so, there's lots of places for gunk to get lodged or just hide out....anyhow, I'll step aside and enjoy the advise. Pretty sure you'll get her going.:msp_thumbup:

PL-4 Rewind

My PL-4 rewind stopped engaging on the flywheel. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Take a Hack saw blade and cut 4 slots across from each other,in the cup,so that the dogs can catch again. Not to deep just deep enough to engage the
dogs.About 1/32nd's of an inch or less.

Great idea, thank you!

it gets feed. heres a pile of stinky cottonwood.View attachment 194624

I know, right? We cut up a couple of cottonwood logs at the sawmill Saturday, and I kept looking for the cows or horses that shat on my shoes. It was the cottonwood. Cut the tree down last November, still the sawblade is forcing water out the 2 by lumber we were cutting. Heavy, smelly stuff.

I removed the filter from my tank on the Mall 6 when I restored it. It was in really poor shape and nothing flowed through it. Well, I really need a filter of some sort on the tank. The troubles I'm having with fuel delivery are the direct result of no filter. To me, the tank looked great inside, but apparently this is not the case. Does anyone have any ideas of filtering the fuel with the stock valve?

I thought of using a cotton filter of some sort to place in the tankside portion of the valve. I'm not sure how effective this would be? Something has to be done though?

Thank you for the help,
M
