PL-7 The ugly side.......

Decided to look a little further into the PL-7 I have. It pulled 140psi, so I tore it down..............................

Plan "b"

By blind luck or intervention of the god's of CAD, I had a spare PL-7. Would it be any better???

The piston is in much better shape, there is a small chip but it is above the top ring. That chip, I think, led to the chip below the exhaust port. Any thoughts??

Think you can get it ready for Daytona Bike Week? :hmm3grin2orange:

What saw engine did they use? Mall 11? I know that Mall liked to make attachments for their saws-pumps, grinders, augers, etc, but that there is the very rare "Hog" attachment.

If I was going to use this latter cylinder, would you hone it out? From my limited experience, this exhaust port looks like it could be opened up with no problems.

The port has that raised ridge all around the top and bottom. Removal of the ridge might just take care of that chip.

That is a 1947 mall 7 motor in a cushman frame.

She would take a lot of work to make it streetable again.

My buddy wanted to sell it to me for 75 bucks and the motor turned over too.

Too many projects already :D

All three ring lands are destroyed. They are just as important for a good ring seal as the cylinder wall.

If Crane's offering will work for you, I believe you can get rings for it from Hastings. Really surprising it would pull 140psi with the ring scoring.

Any value?

I ended up at an indoor flea market last night waiting for my wife and found a PL-4 saw for sale. Interesting in that had a 16" Remington roller nose bar on it. They were asking $25 for the saw, any value to this bar?

Gary, that bar should be in the D196 Homelite XL-series mount. The Wards branded SL-9 I'm sending to DSS has a cute little 12" version of that bar. Interestingly, the MCulloch 250 I parted out last year had a 16" Remington RN just like what's on your saw. Didn't look to have been altered to fit the Mac...

The 20" roller nose off one of my 75A's fit my Homie C5 just fine but I opted for the 20" hardnose Windsor as it wasn't 'spoken for'.

Carl I believe you have an Oregon 'universal' mount bar (often tagged as "Duo-Tronic") on that 75A. Remington Roller Nose bars have those distinctive "sideplates" on either side of the roller (see Gary's pic), while Oregon, General, and Cannon RN bars don't. I've never seen a Remington RN bar with that 'universal' mount. Perhaps Oregon supplied Remington with those 'universal' mount bars as OEM for their saws at some point.
