the one with the sharper chain...What's the more desirable saw a 10mm 044 or a 12mm 44/46 hybrid?

I agree and here is why,,,, There is no substitute for more displacement, FWIW the 046 and the 288/390 are 11 cc's apart,,, hence two different classes,,,,, Either way Both classes are great saws,,,, I am just lucky to own one of each!!!You should seek out an opportunity to run a ported 385/390. Not much bigger than an 046, but speed and torque? Yup
(Nothing against an 046, but a ported 385/390/288 is something a chainsaw guy needs to experience)
Depends on the saws ,my 461 cuts the same speed as my hybrid with a 32 inch bar ,but i can lean more on the 461 more ,it has more tourque ,in smaller wood i am sure the hybrid may cut faster ,i try to stay away from the small wood thoughA Hybrid will steal a stock 461's lunch money and give it to the fat kid
Yeah on the 460/461, the better antivibe,,,, and I hear equal or better performance, (never run one yet) will make your body like it much better at the end of the day anyway!!!!!Like Randy posted in another thread (and I've been saying for years) the Hybrid is a good running saw but lacks the torque of the full-size 046/460/461 because of the lower mixing volume in the case. The base compression of the 044/440 case is slightly higher but without the larger volume, the cylinder isn't filled as efficiently (especially at lower RPM.)
My crew has been running 461s side-by-side with 460s all summer long with both saws having same bar and chain combos and similar hours- they prefer the 461.
Ok dumb question I got 2 ported 064's how do they stack up against say the 461 ported also.
It is barley bigger height-wise than a 460 and a tad heavier. as for the 066 comparison it is a little narrower than the 066 and lighter,,, then again its about 85cc's or about in the middle between he 460 and the 066 in most all respects... the 064 it actually evolved into the MS650 (Same bore and stroke) which only difference is it has a smaller bore than the 660. the 650's weight is very similar... but the RPM range is less than the ms660... they do make very good torque.... The 064 is also a good candidate for a Hybrid, with the same stoke as the 066/660 very little mods need to be done to have it accept an 066 jug&slug!!!!I'd love an 064. How big is the saw (size/weight, handling, not cc's) compared to a 066/660 or 460?
My 385 and 288 with a 28" don't "feel" any bigger than a 460 even tho there's a weight difference
I have a 650 mastermind and with every tank of gas it just gets better betterIt is barley bigger heithwise than a 460 and a tad heavier. as for the 066 it is a little narrower than the 066 and lighter,,, in comparing then again its about 85cc's or about in the middle between he 460 and the 066 in most all respects... it actually evolved into the MS650 which only differnce is it has a smaller bore than the 660. the stroke is the same and weight is very similar... it is also a good candidate for a Hybrid with the same stoke as the 066 very little mods to be done to have it accept an 066 jug&slug!!!!
Yeah the 650 makes very good torque in stock form,,,, I can just about Imagine after it has been stuffed with bananna's and stuff!!!! FWIW I edited post 154 which you quoted,, and corrected a few typo's miss-pellings, and the difference's in multiple saw technical stuff.. it is much more accurate.... Must have had one to many toddies during the original posting!!!!!! Just sayingI have a 650 mastermind and with every tank of gas it just gets better better
I thought about selling it and getting a 390 but I having doubts now and I'm a husq man

Yeah I have one left that I let a climber we hired use on some 120'+ old growth yellow pines that we had to top and part down to about 40-30' a few years back,,, we mounted a 28" Oregon light bar with some scary sharp Stihl square grind skip chain and he about drove me nuts trying to buy it off of me!!!Exactly my take also ,they feel more like a hot rod ,my 460 i had did not sound as fast but it could be leaned on a little more ,the lighter nimbler handling chassis is why i like them for firewood saws .
