Anyone know who makes or where I can get a vest or shirt made like the chaps? I checked Sherrill and my local stihl dealer and they dont have them. Maybe you have to call Sherrill? I have seen some pics of guy out in the northern bush all decked out with every body covered, so I know it has to be available.
I have chaps, gloves, boots, eye and ear all covered already. I have just read another of those horrific stories where the guy gets almost cut in half and dies leaving wife and kids etc, and I just dont want to risk it anymore. Maybe I will wear it for an hour and then hang it on the stump because it is just too friggin hot, but I at least want to have it if I want to keep it on.

I don't know about "chainsaw vests" but you can buy a bulletproof vest. Then you don't have to worry as much about getting shot for cutting the wrong trees.;)

vests

Try Elvex pro vest, Elvex corporation, PO Box 850, Bethel CT, 06801-0850 Phone (203) 743-2488 Fax (203) 791-2276. The vest is sleeveless so it is not too hot and is water resistant for those rainy days. A guy gave me a set because he doesn't wear safety clothes:eek: Guess he figures it'll never happen to him.

Thanks guys. I checked em both out and ordered the one from Elvex. It comes down all the way with the stopping material. The Husq one only covers the shoulder area. Hey if I am going to get it and wear it I might as well get the good one. Not cheap but sleeping better at night is always worth it.

Pro Vest

Hi Johncinco
I checked out that vest and it looks pretty good. where did you order from? how much was it? I saw them for about $68 from Forestry Suppliers so I figured it would be cheaper somewhere else.

I`m not sure if I would buy one because I`ve never been close to needing one before, but I hate having to admit that I was careless or stupid, especially when it involves grievous bodily harm, LOL.

The best safety device is our brain and proper work practices. That guy who died in Virginia would probably been OK even if he did have a kickback, if he had only made himself stay out of the kickback area. There is no substitute for proper body posture.

I ordered it right from them. It was $86 I think with shipping. I hate to spend a couple hours searching trying to save a couple bucks sometimes. I dunno which guy I read about, at least lately. He was cleaning up after the hurricane, just a typical handyman homeowner and not a pro. I never claim to be a pro either, just have enough hours to kinda know which end to point where and keep myslef out of the way. You can see the vests at elvex.com . You just never know what might happen in a moment before you can react. I have a 6 year old son and I want to make sure I am at his graduation from medical school.

I agree with you about not searching too far for a few bucks. I didn`t happen to notice where to order from Elvex so I did a Google search for the vest.

I also have a 6 year old who will be going to med school, LOL. Actually he is looking at becoming a dentist, hope I can keep him thinking like that. Of course with the resultant required divorce from my lovely wife, his college funding is going to take a hit, but I would also like to see him become a Naval Aviator along the way, that could help out. Unfortunately he doesn`t seem to share my love of fast jets. I`m still working on him. :D

Of course I`m playing arm chair quarterback, but it looks like proper body positon would have been the difference between a close call causing a scare, and death. A real tragedy for his family.

Ouch! I get tired of watching homeowners using a saw wearing nothing more than shorts and a tee shirt plus tennis shoes:(
