Hello Gentleman. I made the decision to go fish crab on the Aleutian Chain this Summer. I need to invest in more equipment and I'd rather not go talk to the bank if I don't have to. I hate debt! It's not for me. Two and a half months fishing King crab should set me up proper.
I leave in two weeks. This past week. Ive been enjoying what time I have before I go.
I extended. My rifle range out to 800yrds with two more targets masts I built out of grader blades. 20230623_140456.jpg20230623_140431.jpg20230623_140421.jpg20230623_142457.jpg

Hope all is well with everyone and you are all doing your best to get your scrounge on!

Go fishing! It relieves stress and relaxes the mind!😉

Hey KK, enjoy the fishing and keep the crabs in the hold.

With the recent passing of my Sheppard, Gretchen, we've been talking about when or if we're going to get another dog. Just some light searching proved some people want quite a bit of money for them these days.

I recommend looking into local rescue centers. Best thing we ever did.

Even a rescue dog will run you $450 and up. I see purebreds of any variety selling for up to $2000 +. It is truly crazy. Sixteen years ago I managed to pick up a 2 year old purebred fully trained Chocolate Lab for free. We put her down 2 years ago due to her severe hip issues. We decided against getting another dog. As much as I want another dog I just can't bear the thought about losing another one someday.

Same reason I haven't gotten another after putting down my black lab at 16.

We just gave away 5 Anatolian shepherds after trying to sell them (at $100 each) for about 4 months.
Crazy dog prices must be a regional thing.

We've got three more English shepherd puppies we're trying to sell, but not much luck there either.... though we did sell one last week for a little bit.

Adult rescue dogs are a lot less than that around here, and they are fixed, vacced and chipped! It is far more expensive for them to keep the dogs, and the flow of new dogs is endless.

My wife has decided not to adopt another dog after Lucy is gone ... I can't imagine not having one! I'll need an alarm system!

We'll be going the puppy route if/when we get another dog. My wife seems to think we should get both the kids dogs.... and wants them to have the puppy experience. Which im.not opposed to. Just the cost associated with getting dogs has been overwhelming. It will be some time either way.

Finally got a chance to burn up all the brush in the bonfire pit :blob2:.

Not sure if that was Jesus, guessing not ;), but I accidentally switched from the forward facing camera to the selfie one, I may have looked like Moses when he came out of the tent(minus the long hair ). He was probably sweating too .

Also burned the whole 6.5x14' trailer load of brush and a portion of the pile near the split pile. I wanted to leave a bit of it so I could toss some stumps on the pit tomorrow and then put the rest on. I also have 4 small bucket loads in the woods to burn.
Sorry to you Canadians, the wind just shifted and it's blowing your way now , just not in this picture.

It irks me how some people who claim they are the only ones who love dogs have driven the cost of pet ownership through the roof. I've had pets my whole life, vetted them mostly at home minus a few necessary vaccines and all have lived long happy lives. Many lived longer than expected for their breed etc. On average I would guess I spent less that $100 on each one for their entire life.
Today's vets are convinced they deserve matching pay to top brain surgeons and have pushed the cost of pet ownership well beyond the reach of many. Going so far as to tell you what treatment plan you will use as if you have no say and expect you to be fine with hundreds of not thousands in bills. Their arrogance is astounding. I wonder how many people have taken their pets home and put them down because they couldn't find a reasonable vet?
I watched sadly as our last real vet in this area was bashed by all the new young greedy vets who simply wanted his customers. ( Of which he had hundreds and hundreds who loved him dearly) They did their best to take him down so they could conspire together to ramp prices but his reputation was too solid. He had long lines every single day til he passed.
RIP. Doc Brester

Sounds like you have some pretty rotten vets around you. My wife is a certified vet tech, has worked at the same place for going on 10 years and they daily have to turn new customers away. Yep, some of the bills are expensive, but that medical. They are using basically the same equipment and drugs we get treated with. Let alone go through years of schooling, and need to keep up with continuing education credits to keep their licenses. Let alone the cost increases of the meds, equipment etc.
I do agree it's your pet, and they should give you options, which the clinic my wife works for is pretty good with that.
At the end of the day it's still a business and costs need covered.
