For his service we should be . Hope he beats it
Thank you. (on behalf of him). I thought he was weaker this past spring, He hooked up the camper and was gone a lot. By all accounts, he is doing better. I'd say he has not and never will recover all his strength, but is stronger in 2024 than before, and has changed activities from working on stuff he likes to do (Some of which bring in money) to traveling and having fun. He has a motorcycle he built (frame and all) with an aluminum v-8. (makes a HD hog feel puny). I heard he laid it over while putting it away this fall. (no injury, just a strength issue). So far, so good, but as we age, after a certain point strength lessens no matter how we try to fight it. We learn to adapt. In light of this, I figure if I can cut and hand split a 4x8 trailerload of firewood in half a day, and load and unload and stack it, without ever being tired out or sore, that is not bad for and ol' guy. (and still do other less strenuous work the rest of the day)

So managed to get into a fight with the jointer Saturday night... and caught my finger. Cought a knott on the board, it jumped, hand slipped. You know. Oops
Did manage to get the tip of the bone a bit. good news, the orthopedic surgeon was the on call Dr Saturday night, so it got fixed up right away. Other then hurting like a b**ch it's fixed up. Supposed to keep it dry and not smack it off anything. 🤣 could have been a lot worse.

Got the first quote for my new shop 30x50x12 with two 10x10 roll up doors (may not go with roll up) two 24x36 windows one 36x80 man door . I also requested the Prodex R16 full insulation package. Upgraded to 145mph +43.5 PSF certified construction. Shipped and installed $26,064.00 plus my local sales tax

Recently my daughter added on a 2 car garage to her house. The foundation was already in place. The garage prices ranged from $65,000 - $85,000. This was with attaching the garage to the house. There are (2) 8' x 8' insulated electric doors, one walkout door, a few windows, wired with 20 amp outlets, vinyl siding and insulated. I thought that these prices were a total ripoff. To get a building like yours for that price is awesome.

Not a bad price for the building installed. I was around $15k for a 30x24x12, 2 years ago. The versa tube was $10k delivered i ended up going with.

That looks like my finger when I hit the tip of the saw blade on my table saw. Luckily not nearly as bad though as yours. I wouldn't be surprised if you loose the feeling in that finger tip. It's aggravating when assembling something.

Your jointer accident convinced me to get some paddles and push stick when using mine.

I got the impression that a lot of you guys were appalled at IL requiring a FOID card to buy ammunition. Being in IL, I didn't really think about it since I've never had an issue with it. Go into a store, show your card and buy your shells. Even an online outlet only required a photo copy of the card sent to them before they would sell/ship ammo to me.

Well, a store I wanted to make an on-line purchase will not sell anything to me. The local Academy Sports store is out of stock. The on-line CS will not ship to store or take my FOID card for an order. Their CS is single level, no supervisors or someone with a brain. Their system is not setup to accept FOID cards so IL customers loose out on the sales. I'm pi$$ed.
It sounds easier than NY now. IN the past, we'd walk into a store, buy ammo and leave. Now, a background check, which has a fee, then of course get denied (by design), only to return the next day for it to go through.

Hopefully I don't loose feeling, time will tell. Guess I'll find out after its healed back up. So far it hurts like a bugger, so I'm feeling something lol.
Glad my stupidity combined tou to get some push sticks and paddles. Padles should have prevented this, or even passing over the table how we did every board before that. Don't even know why we deviated from how we were doing it. One of us would pass the board across the cutter, and the other would catch on the outfeed side, finishing the cut. Got into a hurry I guess.

Stick built would be more than double maybe triple

This includes the Prodex insulation which is rather pricey . The insulation is close to 9k . But to install it correctly they need to add purlins to the building . The insulation needs a 1inch gap to the metal to achieve the R16 or it drops to like R5.
I could forgo it and install foam board or Spray foam but I really don’t think I’ll save much at all with 3 inch being so expensive . It’s 50-71 dollars a sheet then glue and tape and my time .

Going to get a quote from Versa tube but I really don’t think I want to install it myself

insulation is a huge cost, I'm glad I got mine for "free" just cost the labor, tape and glue. I ran an air gap too, but just because I specified purlins/ hat channel so I could run the tin vertical instead of horizontal.
Putting the building up was fairly easy. If you had a few guys it could have been done in a couple days, tin and all. Took me about a week for the main structure, then like a month or so worth if evenings to do the tin.
Honestly, if I would have had the extra money I would have went with a company that included installation.
Would have saved me a ton of bs, and the shop would have been done a lot sooner.

I know a lot of folks up here in Alaska that milled their own lumber for their stick frame homes. They used all their kerf waste for insulating their walls. Apparently it works quite well! I imagine a person could go out and make a bunch of it with there powersaw and do the same thing. I'm building a 12×16 she shed for the Mrs. and I myself am considering using kerf waste for insulating the walls. As you said, insulation is expensive theses days. Along with all other building materials.
