I'm building an 8X12 shed for my wife. It's 2X4 frame with 1/2 CDX and Tyvec wrap. I'm going to bolt 2 inch Poplar live edge slabs to the outside to look like a log cabin. They will be notched on the ends to look like a cabin. Due to the curve of the log the slabs are wider on one side than the other. I was thinking about putting the widest side out. That would give me a lip top and bottom to help hold the morter/chinking in place. But, if rain blows in under the over hang, that might funnel the water behind the planks and cause problems with the CDX. Hopefully the wrap would keep the walls dry. Or, if I flip the slabs over so the narrow side is out it may funnel water away. I'm leaning toward the wide side out to give me that lip to help hold the chinking. I was going to put screws every few inches into the plywood to help hold the chinking also. Just deep enough for the tip of the screw to catch, not all the way through the plywood.

The question is, which way do you think I should face the slabs? Joe.

Narrow side out. That will show a more "log" look than the other way, even though the sawed surface will be less.
