right now the saw is for odd jobs and small trees around the house the size varies. as for the chaps thier a gift from a friend that i am getting with x mas money. the amount for chains and up keep is about 350- 400 $ inculding what the saw costs tahts why i am looking at the smaller saws

You can purchase a Husky 350 for 260.00 so it might be within your budget. Check on ebay too... there are always good prices to be found on there. Husqvarna claims that the 350 model is the smoothest husky model made. Who knows if its true or not, but out of all of the saws I have ever used, I must admit this one is the smoothest. When the throttle is wide open on it in the kerf, it barely feels like its running. The low vibe chain also plays a part in that.,

Good. Then my 2 pence goes for bidding on a new Echo 3450 on eBay. They're nice reliable lightweight saws with a good service network. Perfect for cutting brush, general limb trimming around the house, and the occasional larger log. Do a search on recent auctions for the going price and look for a seller with great feedback.
When you get the saw, post back about how to break it in and open the muffler. You'll be well within budget with a good saw that you'll want to retain even when you get the bug for something bigger.

Hi Sam, the 350 is a good saw but the bad thing is the only husky dealer near you is in Hillsbrough and has horrible prices. The next closest Husky dealers are in Graham and North Durham (both have REALLY high prices) so unless you buy from Lowes (remember they can't service it!) you would need to buy the 350 from Dozer Dan. The MS250 would be a good saw, same chasie as the MS210 but more power and more dependable also only $275 w/16'' b/c. For what you will be doing I would get a 16'' bar as you don't need anymore than that.

Foregot to tell you, the dealer I used to use in north carolina is Dual Supply Co. on West King st. in Hillsbrough. Go in and talk to Wes. Don't even think about Barnhill equipment, not only do they not know one end of a saw from another but they have THE highest prices around!!!

Have you checked the prices at Commercial Cutters or Southwest Fastener? They have good prices on Husqvarna. If you have limited time useing a saw, I don't know if I would recomend the 350......JMO. I have one and really like it but I think if your just starting out its best to start at the bottom. If you are comfortable running a saw, then yeah, get it. Better yet the 353. If $ is tight don't rule out poulan pro. Sounds like the 295 with a 16" bar does pretty good. I'd stick with a 16" bar with whatever saw you get in this size class.

Doug

since poulan is made by husky, what do you guys think about one of the poulans pros? 16 inch bar is what i am aming for. PS like ryan said husky dealer is in hillsbrougho and i live i durham with out my lisence at least not yet:mad: . the one stihl dealer i used t oknow about is no longer a official stihl dealer.

this may be a little off topic but has any on else seen the husky 141 compared to the husky 350 on/off switch why the differance? i like the 350 on/off switch but as of right now can't really afford it and also pay for the upkeep if i run it alot

Hi Sam,

Tony Marks and a few others have said good things about the Poulan Pro 295. It would probably fit your current budget also, probably be a good saw for you to learn a few things on.

I believe that you can get one on eBay for about $120.

got my 295 loaned out to my son.. with
95 vp chain and 16 bar .. it cuts fast..
but and this is an very weak but.. the trigger lock is not working rite on it,, its new so i wont know what to think about that until i get it back.. by the way its still no trouble to start.. just full choke until it pops [2nd pull if its cold..] then quarter choke until shes warm..its probably an fluke ,,but i wouldnt know ,,without seeing poulans records.. ill know a bit more wheni get it back.. but dont think u getting an pro grade husq..that just aint the case..nor did i ever think it was..
still for what u are talkin .. u be alrite with it.. if u start at the top ,,takes half the fun out of it..:)
ps everybody here knows my saws the best of anybody on the forum. so i know what im sayin..:D :D

Yeah I am gonna have to say, the Poulan Pro saws are pretty well built saws! I ran one for a whole year a few years ago and must say, it never gave me one problem. Always started fine, ran fine, etc. As long as you take care of it, run fresh gas, keep the air filter clean, chain sharp, etc, you will like the Poulan pro's. Some ppl will probably talk them down but in my experience, if well taken care of, they are nice!

I would be sure to get a saw that runs .325 pitch chain, not 3/8ths mini chain.

I think you need to shoot for the 42 to 45 cc range -- 16 inch bar.

Buy where you can get service, or else be sure to save the box.

Sam I'm going to say this ONE LAST TIME ok? Dual Supply Company, West King St. Hillsbrough!!! Thats the ONLY name you need to remember for Stihl saws, parts or service!!! They've been awarded the Stihl Dealer of the year award for your area the last several years in a row!!! Wonder why??? Wes is a GREAT guy to deal with. Go in tell him you want an MS250 with a 16'' b/c, it'll cost you $275 plus tax. You won't regreat it! From your old house you can be there in 15 minutes if you don't hit traffic at New Hope Commons.

ok ryan i actualy needed to find a place because my dads stihl is going to need some work soon from the sound of it and yarnellhoffer is no loger a stihl dealer i will send you a PM for directions form my old house to ge thier right now with my bugdet and seeing that my dad already has a stilh i have access to i am leaning tword the poulan pro. now i know you don't like them but once i get my sumer job and start earning the green$$:D i can upgrade don't you think:confused: besides its nice to have my own saw that i can call my own and show where it started from.

I have no problem with a American made chainsaw in fact I know of a company who is developing an U.S. built saw. I just feel currently that for the money there are better built saws in that price range from dolmar and redmax and some of the others.
