I'm glad to see your return. I'm a bit mystified by your recent "join" date and your message count.
Yeah, I forgot that the first handle I made with an "o" instead of a zero.. Figured that it had been canned or something. I imagine that I could get it back up.
& thank you for the warm welcome! I see a good number of familiar handles around. Chainsaws sure are addicting!

Edit: I LIED! The old handle does use a zero, but has a space.

Who laid it down? I must’ve missed that.

She didn’t give a name, but said that she found a Professional to come take it down. He definitely confirmed that the tree was a hazard

Kitkat was very impressed with his service and professionalism

She reported that several pages back

Well, I'm glad things worked out.
The guy needn't ever dog a saw into a tree again, unless it's his own.. He told KitKat that the tree was hollow, nope. Looked fairly healthy actually. I'm on my phone, so the pics are small, but what was holding that thing up? The stump looks smooth. Definitely a healthy ash if it was hanging on by just a few whiskers, which apparently was the case. He's lucky it didn't sit back & bust a corner off when he was busy snapping ropes! I could've whacked it on over in a few moments. There was definitely enough real estate to have gotten a ram in it & the limby nature nimimalizes any concerns of it coming apart when lifting. Ash is an enjoyable tree to cut. I tipped some beauties years ago on a strip bordering Virginia's Natural Bridge. The creek that cut that formation was one of the boundaries. Along with the Ash there were some chunky pines & poplars in that strip. Very respectable wood for east coast stuff. Probably never get to cut another strip as "famous" as that one in my lifetime.
Uhm, it has already been done, and the tree is now SAFELY on the ground 😉

Pics or it never happened…

I can’t help ya with that 😉

Kitkat1 the OP reported that the tree was Safely taken down by a Competent Professional Tree Service, I can’t Verify, but I will Trust the OP, that her own tree is Safely grounded

She did post some pics, but I don’t recall if there was one of the tree actually on the ground

The situation has been reported as resolved Safely, with no Deaths, Damage or Injuries involved, that is Good Enough for me, YMMV😉

A am NOT that impressed.
They smashed up the fence. I wasn't there to assess the tree but as the English say “there is always a doubling Thomas

Thing was, they just let the branches fall where they may. Maybe they could have just pulled the tree over?
Kind of looks that way?
I can see why they didnt want to rig off it being cut at he base but you can cut small pieces and direct them as you go so you are right. Unles the Homeowner cleared them to smash the fence IDK. To pull it over you nead it to fit throught the space and maybe the branches would interfere so at least its down and no one got hurt and the house didnt get hit, hard to say without being there.

I feel pretty sure that tree could have been pulled over whole. I consider that job not extremely well done arm chair quarter backing it. It's a shame about the fence if it could have been avoided.

It would take some ropes, anchors and redirection pulleys.

I've got lots of those and love setting and using them.

That's what I was thinking too.
Looking at all the hangers they left, damage to the fence, no cleanup, and the price, I feel if I was available I could have easily improved on all aspects pulling it into the woods. Pulling backleaners is something I do by myself on a fairly normal basis. A pulley down hill, a line set in the tree, and my tractor with a skidding winch set up in a safe spot where no branches from the ash would get flung back towards it from the trees in the wood line. Doesn't seem like that difficult of a job, now the facts that they jumped right on it and someone else had already comprised it do change the quote, but certainly don't make me do a subpar job.
I wouldn't want my name on that work.
How hard would it have been to remove the hangers, you have a lift on site? Toss debris into the woods or chip into the woods. Take fence down or repair fence.
Anyway, I'm pleased it's down safely, and that's what matters the most.
Maybe homeboy will come back and can toss the debris into the woods and then repair the fence, but maybe not ;).

Sometimes I wonder if instead of the obsession with chainsaws ever since I can remember, perhaps computers would've been a more financially rewarding obsession. Looking back at the insane things I was doing by myself in the woods as a kid without getting smushed, I'd say that it was meant to be. I haven't been in the woods for almost 5 years now. My maternal grandmother got sick shortly after my mom passed; within months she asked of me to stay with her. That old French woman spent almost 5 years in home hospice before she was ready to begin the next chapter. God she was one tough woman! She passed November 15th, so my duties are done. Time to get back to being a master of destruction via 2 stroke power. Thanks for the uplifting words, & may I extend the same to you. I wasn't counting on anyone being terribly excited to see me back, which I guess I wouldn't be surprised about. Grandma definitely passed those "trou du cul" genes on to me. I'll grow up one day. Be safe Jamie!
Sorry for your losses. Gets easier but frequently think how much I need to ask a question. Alas, not gonna happen in this life
