I acquired a few old saws today, one amongst them listed as a Stihl 085. I've never heard of it, nor can I find it either in my Stihl manuals or on Mike Acres site.

Just a mistake and it's an 084 or what? Anyone here heard of it?

Oh! 8 s, that does make sense, if a little dissapointing :-( to be honest it's a part saw, with the emphasis on part, so it isn't easy to tell from the little piccy I've seen.

It wasn't pivotal to the deal, as it is described as the one in the worst condition, but a big saw project would have been nice.

Oh well, eeorr donkey Dan, 08s jees why didn't I think of that!!

this is a VERY common mistake on ebay, they just dont bother to beleive thats a LETTER! fustrates me when people dont respect the saws enough to read them properly.. like the echo CS-8000 i got on ebay thats a great runner.. i start checking it out after getting it.. clutch drum is so sloppy you can tilt the drum to the side and stick a cigarette between the drum and the clutch.. that issue also chewed up the oil pump drive.. the clutch hub/spider has a leg sheared right off it.. BUT.. in a half arsed way they are right.. she does run strong and have LOTS of compression.. but thats all it has going for it.. heh

Very true, I've bought a couple as non runners only to find that it's just the switch wire earthing on the casing, on the other hand I've bought a couple as "Good Runners" only to find they're total garbage.

Long live the bay, beware the bay!

I have had good and bad luck as well on auctions, but I havent won anything with a price I didn't consider it to be a non runner anyway. You just have to remember when you are buying something like that to bid accordingly.
