Thal, I'd rather sell them what best fits their needs, not necessarily what costs the most. Of course, sounds like this guy alreay wanted the better trimmer, he just needed you to justify it for him.

Exaclty, he needed a little push, ya might say he met the JUSTIFIER,LOL

Not to boast I screw up at times too. I was stocking the display after lunch and this guy walks up and says hows it going. I said good, are ya looking for a new saw or trimmer. He goes man you just sold me one two days ago. I looked at him close and still didn't really reconize him. Holding my ground I said so, hell buy another one. He goes you sold me a 310 last year and 441 a few days ago. Now I'm like well schit. So I go is that right, well hell you need a small limbing saw. He laffed but at the sametime he was looking over a 260. Dollar bill says I'll get him to buy it. The laff and the looking at the saw tells me he's mine,LOL

Since we are picking on dealers........

I stopped by an area Dolmar dealer today. I've been wanting to actually touch a 7900 that everyone raves about. I learned a few new things today.

Dolmar is the ONLY manufacturer producing a saw with an inboard clutch!

Watch out for the new Huskies , they are now using Poulan parts on ALL their saws, even the large pro-grade saws !!!

I'm not trying to single out any one brand dealer, but this is the second bad first impression i've gotten from a Dolmar dealer in my area. Not saying the Husky or Stihl dealers in town are that much better. I just have to wonder what these people are thinking !!:help:

Yikes that man is using the utmost worse sales tactic there is, knocking the other brand so you will "hopefully out of fear" buy his. That non-sense won't get him far. He's also hoping you don't know any better so he can feed you that line of bull.

Did ya let him know he was full of BS? Hell I would have said ya got any boots in this place, the BS is getting up to my knees.......

Yeah.... i told him both Stihl & Husky had inboard clutches.... and he said, umm... err.... well, not many of them !

And i said i knew Poulan assembled one or two of the cheaper Huskys, and he corrected me by telling me Husqvarna was now using Poulan parts in ALL their saws, so i'd better watch out if i were considering buying one.

I know it wasn't a Dolmar thing. If this guy were selling XYZ saws.... XYZ saws would be the only saws worth buying. I just wonder how many people off the street walk in there, and believe his BS. I'm not sure, but i believe he was the owner of the establishment, which would make it worse in my eyes.

Oh.... and the best part of an inboard clutch was.... if you get the saw bound up in a tree, you can remove the powerhead, so you are only out a bar and chain !!!!!:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

I do not blame you i walked i to a dealership with a extermly worn out sporcket and was to it was good. Went down the street that preson siad yes we have that and man you relly do alot of trees.

I went to one of my two local Stihl dealerships today and asked if they could sharpen square-ground chain and keep it square ground. It's not a big deal to me, but I was curious as to their capabilities. The guy I talked to wasn't especially familiar with square cutters but we talked about it and looked in the Stihl book, and then he let me into the service area and showed me their chain grinder,,,,,,, without me even asking! :) He asked what the advantage of square chain was, so I told him it cuts a little faster than round if it's sharp, but it dulls more easily and then it isn't very good. That's the kind of attitude I like - friendly, honest, and open - so I bought some files for my regular chain, and I'll definitely be back. Plus the guy reminds me of **** Lahaie, which is cool.

Honesty in sales & service personnel is a must for me. I don't expect a particular dealership to have everything under the sun, but should be able to care for the local market. If it's an obscure part, I can wait.

Thall, would love to visit your establishment but don't think my wallet could stand it........:jawdrop: I think I have enough saws to get the job done but am quite sure you'd find a gap or two in my line up.

Now why is that? Why wouldn't any dealer anywhere be able to order any and every item that Stihl produces if there's a need or demand for it?

I'll tell you why, because apparently Stihl likes to ration out its products in order to create an aura among the Stihl dupes... er, I mean... Stihl 'faithful'... that Stihl 'is all that'. Which it ain't. (Plus it allows everyone involved to charge more just for the name 'Stihl'.)

A lot of it isn't about what Stihl Inc. does, it's about what each of the 12 Stihl distributor's order in to their warehouse. Our distributor doesn't stock certain chains period. If we want any of those we have to wait until they place their next order.
