Size matters
I've always been a poor boy growing up. Hence, I've always lugged around 15lb saws and seem to prefer them. The heavier the better. When I started cutting oak logs, many around 36-48" on the butt end, I started running a Stihl 056. That's probably the newest saw I've ever touched. The old Stihl's, 040's 041's were pretty much all we used. I called Stihl, they said they were rated at 3.9hp. I wanted something bigger, but really couldn't afford a new saw, i've never had a new saw and don't plan on buying one for the cost of what they want now, so I bought my Husky 266XP. I like it quite a bit. I've also used a 288XP, I'd like to get my hands on that bugger, but the dude won't sell it. I like both Stihl and Husky's, but no matter what I've used or the comparison, it seems the Husky's don't really have the low end torque you need when you get into the bigger wood. What I mean by that is when your sawing larger logs, it seems they bog down quicker, they definitely cut faster on smaller stuff, and in the bigger stuff they start out cutting alot faster, but when they do get bogged, where the Stihl keeps right on churning out the chips, they get bogged. Course it prolly doesn't help that I'm yanking on the dogs constantly. Always go with a bigger saw if you can afford it. That way you'll be prepared no matter what comes your way, big or small. Remember, you can always cut small wood with a big saw, but you can't cut big wood with a small saw...
