I made a few cuts in some 14-16" red oak cants. The saw was new, my reps demo, not run in at all. It would do everything my 440s will do, maybe a bit more. The anti vibe beats anything I've ever run in that size. The saw is an entirely new design, so you can't really compare it to any other Stihl. If it lives up to Stihls expectations it may become the new standard for comparison. My early impression is that it is leg up on ELux's newest entries. Time will tell I guess. I'm not about to scrap one of my 440's, or my 2171s, but I will take one home to try for a while.

loose 2lb of love handles and you'll be back to zero!:)

Actually, the Hp is slightly more, the torque is significantly more, and the engine life is much longer... Sounds like a plus to me. They beefed up the saw based on the increase torque and realities of use in the pro markets.. seems to have a LOT of untaped potential inside, but it has a 361 style muffer so we'll need to figure out a nice way to open them up! Might even get one myself...

The mufflers are not that hard to open up. They just take a little time due to the crimped seam that holds the two halves together. You can walk a flat screwdriver around it fairly easily and pry it open.

441 pricing

I just visited my dealer, and he had the 2006 price for the MS441W (heated handles) availiable - but of course no saw in stock.

The price was surpricingly low (by our standards) at 7900.- NOK.

For comparison, the 575xpg/372xpg and 460W are all about 9300.- NOK, and the CS2171WH 8990.-
The 440 has never been sold here.

The 357xpg is 8900.- NOK, and the MS361W about 7200.-

Thay obviously want to sell some 441s when they arrive.....:chainsaw:

I have a mint condition 044 I bought new in 1997. It has a 24" bar on it and looks and runs great. Should I trade it for a new 441? what would you guys do? How much should I get for a trade in allowance?

Let's just wait and see how the 441 turns out. I was eager to get one, thinking it'd be the same improvement the 361 one was over the 360. It doesn't appear to be such a marked improvement, at least in my eyes. We'll see. I went and bought a 660 instead, and am glad I did, as I've got an 044 and a 440, so that saw niche is well filled in my quiver.

I'd just cut wood until it wears out in about 10 years. It will work just fine... if you just want the latest saw, then sell the 044 on Ebay as "mint" - you'll get more than for a trade-in.
