Throwing this out to see if anyone has possible parts available for this saw. Picked up a MS360 with great cosmetics but was told the crank was broken. I will dig into it tomorrow at least get the jug off and see how bad it is. It for sure is locked up:jester:

This will be my full dig my heels in rebuild on a Stihl. I have read a lot of positive things about this saw and went to a local dealer ship digging for parts saws and this is what they come up with. The more common saws the seem to keep for replacement parts for customers but the 360 is not so common I guess. I can post pictures tomorrow.

I am hope it can be saved. If the crank is broken what is the likely hood of it totaling the case beyond repair:confused2:

great saw... I'd venture to say it's my second favorite 60cc class saw (behind the 6401) and they are wicked once you drop the jug for a little more compression or if you do a port job on them.

The cranks don't "go bad" on these unless they have been really really really badly abused. I'm talking strait gas on purpose like we do with WT's at the GTG's... I'd venture a guess that you'll need a P&C and maybe bearings... Even if you need a total rebuild i'm sure there are enough 036/360 parts sitting around that we could get you well on your way to a full rebuild on that saw. FYI the 034/036/360 all have the same crank if you do need one. I'd definatly go for the full rebuild. I've got a new impulse and fuel line. PM me ur addy if you're in need of them...

That's good to know on availability of parts across models. Tomorrow I will dig into it. The outside looks to be very low hour, but as we all know that means nothing to the insides. The flywheel and clutch side don't look crooked so it should be interesting to see what I find.

doubt you find a broken crank. Northwoods has a complete seals set for $12-$15 as I recall... includes oil seals... So, with a set of new fuel lines you'd be covered on all the air leak areas. The flywheel side oil seal is really small on these just like the 026 and they are prone to leak. I bet you just have a lean seized saw that needs seals, fuel lines, and a new top end. If you are really curious tonight you can pop the clutch drum off and jiggle the crank to check for any play. If it's tight you have a lean sieze and if it has play you'll need to seperate the crankcase for new bearings... Start a thread... PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

PS: what'd you give for it?

I wouldn't call it an absolute steal I gave $95 for it...........but it has a darn near new 25" Stihl ES bar (no chain)

No go on looking at it tonight wifey is fast asleep and I don't want to disturb her rattling around in the garage:msp_scared: Will do pictures as always.

Just let the dog out and went and pulled the starter rope over softly and you can here metal on metal squeaking. I have low expectations and know with me using the bar I will still be ok money wise on it in parts.

I have seen a handful of these saws where the crank breaks off at the clutch end. That would be painfully obvious if it were the case.

I really doubt the shop would mis-diagnose it but you never know. It shows on the tag estimate to repair broken crank, not sure if customer diagnosed or shop. Saw looks complete and the carb and such is in place. I'm going to toss and turn tonight for tomorrow wondering what it is in there. It doesn't sound good when pulled over.

When I flipped the saw over the clutch side looked square to the case and appeared in place with the clutch cover on it.

I might have a few used/new chains I could send you too... have to scroung around a bit to see what I have... If you need them that is...

$95 isn't to bad since it has a $50-$60 bar on it! Metal rattling is never good. Maybe the piston shredded itself or you have a bad bearing that gave way... hell if the crank went bad and the P&C are salvageable you got a screaming deal! Seems like someone just had an AM top end for a 036/360 within the last few pages... Just sayin case you end up needin one...

cheers!
Nate

Yeah the shop usually doesn't "miss-diagnose" but I know plenty of them that "over-shoot" the estimate for "worst case senerio." They do that so the owner will just by a new saw b/c the shop makes more money collecting a percentage on a new saw VS. paying their shop labor to fix an old one... And b/c they can collect $95 from you later on the saw they probable only gave $40-$50 for on trade in... IF that...
