Whats wrong with the BING?

I have had lots of MagII's and always ran the BING, I have two of them now. BUT I've tried a couple times to run the Tilly from the 038 av and it"s NOT GOOD!!!! Even bought a new one from Tillotson but NO WAY!!! loose lots of RPMS and low speed torque, no matter what you do.
My 038 Mag II's are great with No issues at all with the BING. just my 2 cents worth.

You've had different results than me...I've never found that there was any performance difference between the the Tilly and the Bing on an 038 Mag...I sure like the $14 kit for the Tilly more than the $60 one for the Bing though!!!:msp_scared:

Guess I just luck out but my kits are $10.00???? I have two spares, I keep hearing these nightmare kit costs but never see it. I like tilly's in general there the best for my Partners but the bing has way more rpm potential if you push your 038's like I used too. They also fire first pull hot or cold and keep running if you catch the choke fast enough!

I've found the kits but they are wanting 40 bucks or more for them, which is a little ridiculous. They may be an excellent carb, but without good diaphragms they aren't worth their weight in scrap.

I got my Tilly HK for $20 and diaphragms for $7.50, so for a $27.50 investment I have a carb I can easily find parts for, and saved atleast $12.50 on the diaphragms alone for the Bing.

If I didn't plan on keeping and operating this saw I may have left the work to the new owner, but I'd rather be done with it because this saw is still in great shape and has excellent compression, many more years of runtime left on it. So another kit will be in order down the road.

Maybe what else I do once I get to working on the carb I will take pictures to compare the two, throttle bore, venturi and so on.

I believe the Bing carbs are similar to Mac carbs, they operated OK, but as far as common parts and being able to bring them back/keeping them in a functioning state they aren't worth the trouble and money.

Hey just so you know, Bing carb kits are $9.99 at Baileys. Others similar, They may not be Stihl but they work the same, mines been in there 5 years. Mine was labeled as made in Germany on the bag.
Anyway sounds like you have it handled, Tilly or Bing your 038 is a great saw, very long life saws.

034/036 coil and maybe a carb

Looking for a coil for an 034/036, and possibly a carb. I have a few different stihl things I could trade.

Looking for a top end for a Husky 272, piston, rings, clips, wrist pin, cylinder and bearing.

Also a clutch cover, condition is no matter, one from a 61, 266, 268 and 272 will do.

Also an air filter.

Green paper and 15 boxes full of chainsaws and parts to trade.

Good point, Aaron. However I'm wondering if he's going to put on a shirt, and take the cigarette out of his mouth when the crew shows up to film his episode of "Hoarders"?

...I don't watch much TV, had no idea there was such a show..I sincerely hope they don't find out about me.....because IT'S TRUE, THAT IS ALL VALUABLE STUFF!

...my fav is some oddball piece of machined metallic looking substance that I have NO IDEA whatsoever what it goes to, where it came from, or if it will ever have any practical use..but I do know that if I throw it out, within one week I will discover a need for that...whatever it was. Never fails.
