Looks like some blokes back in 2008 were getting into the POP issue. Here's a part of one message -

OilHead, yes I have tested about all the saws I can get my hands on. From what I have found, if the carb makers are paying any attention at all to the pop-off pressure on their carbs for stock saws, they must be on a secret mission to conceal their knowledge...ie, the pop-off pressures are all over the board. A 242xp that I tested today, had a pop-off pressure of 34psi! More often than not, I'm finding stock pressures above 20psi. Don't know if you saw the email I posted from Walbro on the subject.... Basicly, a
guy there said it doesn't matter on stock equipment, but did go on to say that in racing engines, like in karting, the pop-off is more critical. I guess that they think it is out of their jurisdiction to have to respond informatively to any question that goes beyond stock engine requirements. Unfortunately, they act totally vague on the subject. I still haven't exactly settled on what I find is best for my modded saws, but I doubt it is 34psi.

From the various posts, there were recommendations of setting the POP at between 15 -19 psi for saw engines.

what are the weights like Matt... from memory the 62cc is close to 7kg and feels like about 2hp output. Awesome noodling saw - if you compare it to a pocket sized 12v rechargeable chainsaw...

Well with the 24" bar the 62cc version actually balances really well, like holding a bag of cement on the end of a crowbar.
I'm pretty sure the average household budgie is packing a higher kilowatt output...

It must have really pained a South Korean company to deal with the mainland Chinese, I'm really surprised they haven't engineered and made their own by now.

Actually Rick I'm not certain whether these saws are Chinese or Korean. If Korean then they've got a lot to learn even from the Chinese about making saws :)

I'm sure you'll find 'PRC' somewhere on them, most Korean stuff I've seen/worked on lately has been pretty damned good and they look like rubbish. (I still dislike Samsung stuff, though)

They look the same as the Baumr ags just with different colour plastics, or the Morrisons that bunnings sell at 3 times the price of what you can get one off of ebay.

Oh don't try adjusting the oiler it will stop it working and make it leak even more oil out through the brake/clutch drum area. pull every bolt and loctite them.

As for stopping rocks with the airfilter they don't! I had one stall recently and found a golf ball stuck in the throat of the carby and regularly clean more dust from inside the filter than the outside, thank god they spit back plenty and some of it gets stuck to the filter!

A question for you blokes that have been around saws for a while. In the pre-EPA days, did the fuel tank have a vent that would breath either way? - That is, a breather that would prevent pressure from building up in the fuel tank after you shut down?

now i aint old but my old mac cp125 has a vented cap,

Well, well, I remember a tidbit from the Simonizer thread -

"That is a 503 8280-04 vented cap. Adds redundancy to the existing tank vent. One less thing to worry about when you are flown in by helicopter for your days work."

Ding! I've been stuffing around with EPA crap since 1978 with a brand new 280Z I had (needed different springs on the distributor, different vacumn pot with different pre-load, jumping out sensors, thermostat, etc) (did the same thing to my Hilux tubo diesel boost compensator, different fuel curve, pre-load, orifice on compensator, thermostat. etc)

If the EPA has gone down the road with chainsaws like it did with automobiles, then they wouldn't want the tank to vent to the atmosphere. They would send the fumes though the carb like they do on cars.

Of course, it might just tend to flood the engine at times - unless you raised the POP to resist the extra pressure in the tank.

From reading the posts back in 2008, I get the impression that the guys were addressing some sort of problem created by the 'new' saws.

I'm going to order a 'Green Cap' and see where I go from here.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner !

Makes a lot of sense Terry.

FWIW one of Matt's 7900's split the tank from overpressurising.
