I sold matty1 a 16 for his 241 but the sprocket nose actually chipped out, got a replacement and I don't know how that ones gone

Crap bars mate. I'm sure the Arbor Pro/Tech are made from aluminium. The two I've used wore 10 times faster than a Stihl E bar and I've sold a few too which have been just as bad. Avoid at all costs I reckon.

Yeah I guess I could bump it up a bit but have been running that across the board for the big and old saws. I am tuning with a tach and test cuts and tune to suit tho.

Yeah, I'd stick with 25 to 1 on the big old saws too.......can you see the wood you're trying to cut through the white smoke? If you can then it's prolly too lean, if you can't, then too rich.

Not sure why they call them Longhorn Beetle? I think somebody may be dyslexic as they're actually called Longicorn Beetles :) The perfectly rounds holes early are more than likely Longicorn larvae bore holes. Got similar holes in piles of Sugar Gum I have here. The larvae are generally yellow with a black head capsule.
Slowly catching up on posts I've missed. Been busier than a one legged man in an arse kicking contest...

Greetings MC-Dub!

And yes I agree that is rather busy indeed

Hi gents.
Sorry I've been missing in action. Been flat out in my day job and after hours so haven't had time to scratch myself. Never been so busy with saw stuff. More and more guys seen to be contacting me after Google searches have brought my name up. As far as local customers go I'm sick to death of ********* wrecking saws. Just in the last week I've fixed about half a dozen saws ranging from crank seals on 023/025/250's to full rebuilds on seized saws. The squashed 660 Benny mentioned a while back was an interesting one. Guy dropped a Redgum on it and it looked quite damaged externally. He took it to the local Stihl dealer who told the guy it was a write off. I take a look and after straightening the dogs, bar, and handle all it needs is a roller chain catcher, top engine cover, and brake handle. The dealer has been taking everybody for an absolute ride and customers are starting to wake up to it.
Other than that been doing a few tree jobs ranging from Casuarina windrows (again for the same company) through to pruning citrus.
Have tried to log back in a few times but the site has been down. I check the AS Facebook page regularly and see it's down nearly all the time. Becomes a pain in the arse after a while.
Anyway hopefully I'll get some email updates this time and have a few guys I need to call back, including one of the new members here. Apologies about the delays in replying.
:)

Maybe even busier than a one legged man in an arse kicking contest :) Come home from work then straight down the shed to fix saws or sharpen/shorten guys chains. Or technical talks to grower groups. Been doing around 2-3 a week lately. I've actually enjoyed getting on the saws instead of fixing them.

Welcome back Kotter[emoji16][emoji106]

Oh and just an update on that Chinga 660 copy.
Still going strong but have had to replace a few things.
It's now got...

Genuine antivibe rubbers
Genuine bar tensioner
Genuine HO oiler (old oiler struggled with 28" bar under tough conditions)
Genuine carby
Genuine HD2 filter
Dolmar 7900 clutch springs (they fitted!)
Dolmar 7900 clutch bearing - it fitted too (original fell apart)
Genuine fuel/oil caps

Possibly a few other things.
Other than that though it's been a bloody good saw. I know that sounds like a lot of things to fix but this saw probably has 200 hours on it now and has been worked hard mostly on dead hardwood.

Oh and I did get a package from Andrew. His Masterminded 661 but I haven't had a chance to run it yet. I've only been doing small or crap jobs and I don't want to give it a run in dusty hard crap and put a scratch on it :)

1500 known species of weevil in Australia, about 800 have names, and every time they go looking in places like the sw of tas they keep finding new ones.
How dare you get it wrong old fella.

It could be a Longicorn larvae that got stuck into some horse steroids I suppose :)

To give you an idea of what people have been bringing in. This guy broke the stop switch spring in his 023. He'd been stopping it by shorting two wires out...

Benny has got me a new one but haven't caught up with him yet to grab it.

Zoe getting bigger too. Here she is with Tracy helping me monitor insect pests in citrus orchards. Wearing her crown she made at childcare of course and with melted Cherry Ripe around her mouth!

And a fox I drilled last weekend with the .222 - it's about the only rifle I own at the moment that doesn't need a new barrel. My .22/250AI burnt it's barrel out and is in getting a new one as we speak and my T3 Tikka in .25/06 is on its last legs with visible throat erosion. Still shooting under an inch but getting worse by the day. My old Rem 700 is still in the process of being built into a .280AI.

Wife wanted a round wooden doggy bed!!! Trying to bend 6mm marine ply wasn't as easy as I thought. Tried steaming but after two hours in the steamer I had like 15 seconds to form it. Took it out lit a ciggy and bang stopped being mailable. Now I've let it soak for a few days. Might fk the glues in the ply but it's only for the rat we call a dog lol. View attachment 431834
