Well there you go, I didn't think the 08S ran a chain brake, just a front guard.

One of the cockies here has one, his deity only knows why he still uses it.
He told me once that his father bought it new in the early seventies, and because it doesn't have a chain brake he won't let any of his boys run it, only the newer saw.

Serg, I just checked on Mike Acres site and the 08 came out in '63 (50cc), and the 08S in '65 (48cc prior to '69, 56cc after)
He lists an 08SE too (electronic ignition and a whopping 60cc) but I think the introduction date is a typo ('63) It also says chain brake optional for the SE, so they must have continued them up to near the eighties ??
All at around 8.5kg.

How on earth is it still doing the rounds as a hire saw ? :dizzy:

thats precisely what i was thinking, but couldn't remember if they had brakes or just guards, she should of payed for itself by now anyway. I seem to remember them being known as a poor mans 090,,,,,, oooops here it comes:beat_brick:

edit,,, Rick ,,,,a couple of the 90's getting round are capable of beating the later stuff in big blocks, but yea on the whole the newer gear gets used over the old bangers. After saying that, one of my own 90's runs up somewhere round 13 500 rpm and loves big blocks, but i would rather run a 3120.
Heres some trivia,,, take a old 090 to a training day and that thing will get more use than the race gear, everyone wants a cut with it.

The 08's could be used with different attachments also, such as post hole bores, concrete saws and even a brush cutter!?! Can't imagine it to be the lightest brush cutter around...

Of course Neil, why on earth would anyone want to run a Stihl when a Husky is available ? :monkey: :D

Well god only knows why they have it still (Stihl)....but I guess if it aint broke, dont fix it...Ill look a little harder for serial date model number etc. It doesnt rev very high and doesnt seem to have much power....about as much top end power as my LR, but thats another story. It is heavy, the front and rear handles are to close to each other and the engine loves to cut out. Before we rang i told my mate that most hire companies would only have Stihl saws so I said make sure its not some big monster as we needed some control. It has done its job and that is the main thing. There was no way I was taking my 346xp in. It would have done the work great, but with many hands just grabbing the saw to do what ever and that was mostly cutting gyprock covered, nail filled, 50 year old HWD it wasnt going to be mine!

oh and the white knuckle is a nice tough also...................atleast it was something different at work

even better run a dolkita  is the 73cc open or closed ports?

BTW Neil and Will, Im pretty sure that the new 372xp xtorq has a stuffer crank and that this may fit the older 372xp

I thought the 372xp and 372xt (x-torq) share the same bottom end. Who wants to buy one and fine out? :D

BTW the new 365xt and 372xt share the same top end (71cc), but the 365xt has some restrictor plates in the transfers - easily modified.

Serg, is that the Surf Club job you were talking about a few months back ?

BTW, no new saws or buildups for me for a little while, I have a bit of an expense at the end of next month and will be offline for five weeks. (unless they have wifi)
Off to do some study and training, 12 hours a day, six days a week. :help:

I'm not game to let on what it is to you fella's, I'll never hear the end of it, but at least it'll have good views and it's on a beach :D

I might even get a surf in Serg, the head teacher is an ex-pro surfer.

That's a big increase over stock Neil.
Is that on a pipe or box muffler ?

My next door neighbour still hasn't given me a run of his 090 :(

do you run a 576 in the 77cc class racing?[/QUOTE]

yes mate, its a little pisser and run's with the best of the 046's, i should find a pic.

here it is when i first got her, she was a new saw to start with but then got played with.

edit,,,, rick it runs both mate but dean has pinched the pipe off it, and its a saw i done years back useing qld mr speed's spec as he was the man who told me what to do and what not to do. It has a worn cylinder but is surpriseing and should not be taken lightly.

To tell the truth I am happy with the 372xp, been a very good saw in the race arena, hope to get mine back up and running again soon

Might have to get another 372/365 base and build up a second saw to do the disk stack. The current 372 is a cookie moster that really only good for the 3 cuts then it starts to heat up to much, the disk stacker needs to be able to run flat out for upto 2minutes, hard yakka, the change overs you don't let off the throttle at all

If any one is in the Gympie area this saturday stop on by the show grounds, we are racing there for the first time, come on out and cheer us on:msp_thumbup:

Cheers
