My first ever road registered car was a 1948 Ford Prefect bought for the ungodly sum of 10 quid and a lifetime backup of spares from the local dump
4 different brands of spark plugs all second hand of cause .... shaved head the rest of the mods top secret.

Man that was motoring at its finest car was always full of local hoons off to Maitland talking about body roll ,,, shaved doorhandles fast car.

Ford Anglia 105E. 997cc of raw horsepower...

US stock exhange went down a bit last night on the back of poor news out of Europe. Hopefully a correction in the US dollar in our favour.

My 1st car 76 Ford escort pannel van. I had to reco the worn out 1.3 donk before I could drive it and dunno why but kept the same 1300cc when could'a easy put in the 1.6. It was crap slow so prollo saved me grief as more often us youngster find. Any hoo I had 650 and 900 cc bikes so fast in a car twas not my thing. Later I got the 2 door 2litre escort that twas a fun bit of gear.

i remember the little escort panelvan, some guys put twin chrome lay pipes down the outsides with the exit just in front of the rear wheels....big noise but no power.

Funny stuff.
My first car was a 1960 Fiat Millicento that my Dad foisted off on me. It was an odd little thing.
I ditched it after 6 months or so and got a 1962 Olds F85 with the little aluminum 215ci V8, that was a good car.

first road reg car,WB ute ,3.3L 3 on the tree ,that later got a work over, stripped and painted 2 pack gloss black, dropped ,ddragway pro's on eagers,5sp supra box behind a worked 308 with all the gofast bits, extractors and a 3inch system, man that thing was fun

After the Prefect i stepped up to a $40-00 Morry Minor side valve for the powerheads and got booked for doing 40 mph in a 35 zone
I laughed what a speed record they wouldn't go that fast down a mineshaft .... actually engines changes were neally as fast as changing tyres

I had a Leyland P76 that run a small cube V8 215 Buick the only car i have seen that can carry a 44 gallon drum in its boot
ugly car made by British Leyland went OK tons of room inside

The P76 engine was an Oz version punched out to 4.4 litres Bob, vs the 3.5l of the original Olds/GM design. In fact the P76 was entirely Australian designed/made.

There were a few differences between the 215 and Rover 3.5l too.

My first road registered car was a '74 Jeep CJ6 that had been flogged on a farm for most of it's life and it still had the genuine Jeep Australia fitted 15x8 Sunraysia wheels, the original ones that had the centres cut from 3/8" plate and the spokes directly welded to the rim.
Like Serg, i wish I'd never gotten rid of it. Geez I had some fun in that car.

I loved driving Escorts, they fit like a glove and just felt 'right'.

One of my cousins had a Mk I Twin Cam that someone had pinched the Lotus engine out of and installed a worked Mk II 2 litre.

Went like stink and he was silly enough to give me a test drive with him riding shotgun one day.

Man screams aren't very becoming :hmm3grin2orange:

I bought a brand new Fort Escort GT 1600 the last of the Twin Cam models in 1973 Jewel Green a very very quick car in the 0-60 mph range it would flogg a GTHO off the line great scitch car the winderer the better
i used to travel home to Springwood up the Panaranic lookout way from Richmond where i was based in the RAAF the corners were all hairpins and one of the mates had a HO true in TOP SPEED he's crap on me but the tight corners and short straights killed him sad day i had to get rid of it the insurance was group 5 at the time and me being under 25 well what more do i have to say.

A fella from Cessnock had a Capri V6 shoved in his like the English V6 Apache run like a raped ape but didn't handle too front heavy.

Great little cars Bob, a treat to drive, especially considering it was really a shopping trolley, but all the little English Fords from that era drove well.

My pop bought a 1300 new in 1973 (from Sinclair Ford in Penrith, not too far from you at the time)
One of my cousins ended up with it, I would have loved the little thing as I had a heap of cast off Formula Ford stuff which use the 1600 GT engine and I could easily get 110HP at the flywheel out of one of those with the stock GT cam and DGV Weber. A better cam and twin Webers and bwahahahahaha.
Robert had coveted it since he was a kid so it was fitting he ended up with it, he did it up as a GT and still has it, it's in great condition.

BTW, a Twin Cam or BDA is worth a bomb these days, all the old Baby Boomers are trying to relive their youth

Women ??

I don't get it, my sister sent me a text this morning "can you help me pick up a freezer from Scone ?"

That's 40km away and it's pissing down rain.

I just rang her and asked how she was going to keep it dry.

"why ?"

So the electrics and electronics don't get wet.

"Is that a problem ?"

Umm, yeah

"Can't I just let it dry out for a day ?"

No

"why not ?"

Sheesh........

Can't we do it another day ?

"oh, I was supposed to pick it up two weeks ago..."

sound of hand slapping forehead of shaking head........
