You assumed I was trying to or did offend someone...as for constantly defending myself, give me a break...just so you know my truck isnt stock and I do have a set of 34's..................

the whole point I was making re LSD and suspension would not matter for brand, its basic engineering...my trucks lifted suspension has the same +'s and -'s as any brand....but due to the way it(oem) was designed it suffers a little less. Dont take that as a brand thing..............I would still like to change things but QLD laws prevent it

Serg, I don't think you set out to offend, even though you do at times, alot, more often than not, lol.

I agree with you more than you realize.

34's aye......your getting there!

Talking tyre sizes again, the one thing that is nice with most of the maxxis range is that they measure what it says on the sidewall, unlike a number of brands tyres where things like a claimed 35" tyre is no bigger than 33.5".

First thing I did when I bought the 255/85's was run a stagger tape around them and the circumference measured up to equalling 33.3" tall at only 25psi or so.
Have to say that the previous two sets of BFG's in the same size were almost identical.

it was either 9/34 or Q78 (35.5) swampers as I dont like wide tyres....and fitting them in the guards etc without wide offset wheels was a problem...wont be down the track though with 5 extra inches of axle clearence and 85mm wider track each side.....:msp_sneaky:

Go on, tell Al what you're up to ;) (it is pretty cool :msp_thumbup: )

what IS cool, is my mate that is going to help me had his grader break down....he suspected a broken axle. So he bought a UB beam, some chain and spocket to make a walking gantry between 2 exsisting UB beams in his shed. Removed the rear boggy from the grader and stripped it down....broked axle, stripped bull gear, broken pinion, 3 different types of spindles.....his answer to this is hes made 2 new axles 70mm dia hytuf, 4 new and improved spindles, is waiting on the hob so he can make a new 4340 bull gear @ 350 or so mm dia...and make a new pinion. it has a spiral bevel diff at top that turns the pinion that turns the bull gear...NO diff ie solid spool.

Hey Matt, what era did you go through rac? They were fun times (mostly). I missed the place for quite a while after I left and joined the real world! Concur on some of the utes being over the top, but still short of some of the monstrosities seen at b&s's in west and central nsw

Hi Carl.
I was there from 1993 to 1995, just after the dreaded and disastrous (at the time) take over by Adelaide Uni. I enjoyed most of my time there too but certainly wouldn't go through it again - I despised studying with a passion, particularly when you hated 90% of the subjects :) Now I only study subjects I like, such as chainsaws and chopping stuff ;)

I had to share this little nugget from today's 'Sydney Morning Herald' on the burgeoning firewood market in the city...

WTF ? :msp_ohmy:

I started to do sums on how much it would cost to take a few truckloads after reading this.....

from here Families feel the squeeze and opt for old-fashioned wood fires over gas

Yep. Up to $350 a tonne for split Redgum in the Adelaide Hills too. Can't help but think these guys are bleeding consumers for all they're worth as prices this season are around $100-120 a tonne higher than last year - nearly all the Redgum sold in SA is coming out of NSW on trucks. Despite the "squeeze" wood in Tassie is still half the price due to wood being everywhere. You can also cut any fallen timber in national forest in Tassie - as much as you like.

There are some seriously DODGEY firewood suppliers in our area -

One even advertises that his Redgum is sourced from NSW under "NSW Forestry supervision". Yeah right ya moron...

Another one claims his wood is "precisely 20% moisture to achieve the best burning characteristics". I assume he has one huge mofo humidifier to achieve this? Peanut...

Most of our local guys are trying to turn the age old art of firewood collection into a science when their combined IQ would struggle to crack 3 digits. Their competing advertisements in our local papers are quite hilarious...

Ah well supply and demand I suppose. I'm still sitting on about $180 a tonne or thereabouts (I don't have any scales) but only have about 20 tonne at present split and ready. I might be called an idiot but I'd have trouble sleeping at night charging anything over $200 a tonne. If I was to advertise my wood at $180 a tonne these meatheads would probably do a driveby on my house and torch my woodheap :D

Was about $120 for red and box around here last time I looked.

do any of you guys burn Mally root?

Yeah Mallee stumps are excellent Serg and one of the best burning woods you'll find. Red Mallee is the norm but if you can get your mitts on White Mallee that's the ant's pants and as hard as all hell. Unfortunately many of the stumps are hard to split and termites love the stuff (they must have bloody hard teeth!!!). Funnily enough I'm currently burning some dead mallee branches that I've cut on my own place - they burn well but the amount of ash they're leaving is insane :(

i charge 180 a ton for large split or 220 for whinging moaning pains in the :taped: who :taped: me to tears, one buyer was happy to take full rounds and he would split himself so only charged him a 100 for the 5 rounds that made up a ton, needless to say he got the next load split
woods been getting pinched around town one bloke lost five ton out of his yard
