got it off some bum in SA cheep needed a bottle of port :D

yep it's still going but i don't know if i'm gunna keep it the 460 runs the 32" bar so well
thinking of selling it

Yeah the porting on that 390XPG is pretty mild. Would love to see one wound out with some machining done for round 200psi compression (Hmmm, late chrissy present for me perhaps?).
I gather your 460 is right there with it?

this is the first one think the husky is 1 or 2 seconds quicker in that log

and the husky. its poor quality vid as it was late in the evening

i'd be going with something non HD if you can find it as matt said net speed has to be good it's crap here so i

got this loads up to youtube ok and takes a ok close up as well the vid ain't great but it will do
true uploading takes up a heap of Data and takes forever for big clips to load up, tho you can convert & trim them down for the tube ...& keep the HD 1080 quality Vids for the personal collection,

(ya think i waoud put it all in the same post lol)

matt i'm just not used to the spongy fell of the spring AV of the husky and vibes don't worry me on the

stihls so i will wait for the 661 and see how they mod if it's like the 461 think i will get one of them.

should have balls of touqe and better fuel use but if it's AT it's no way

Do you mean "private collection" just like Paris Hilton had?

Yeah the vibes on Stihls don't worry me either. The jury is still out on whether the 661's will be M-Tronic or not but it doesn't look like they will be. Hopefully they'll have fixed the sluggish throttle response of the strato's with these newer models. Husky also have to catch up with their filtration too.
The 461's just hit the Aussie market.

you'll appreciate it if you get into ripping a lot posts, or some milling

ya propably right on that the longest i have cut post's for was one 10 hour day cutting post's

for a deer farm they were 9' or 10' long, think if it was a week or so the spring AV would be good

Hi ya blokes,im back.

Hey Darren,
just querious as to why you use .404 I know it will stay sharper longer and the chain lasts longer than 3/8 just seems most run 3/8
3/8 has thinner kerf but .404 has a faster chain speed if using the same no drive link sprocket .
You dont see a lot using it. I think its great providing you got the power.
Have you tried the 460 on 3/8 8 tooth ?
With the 390 over the 460 in big logs, as I used to say in my younger days with my 400 hp 351's there aint no substitute for cubes.
Cheers Wayne

with 3/8 when it's blunt it's blunt and will not cut but with 404 when it's blunt it will still cut you just have too

lean on it a LITTLE bit and it cuts .

i don't have a still pic so have to bore you with another vid just about all the wood around here is full of sand

so if you want to stop and sharpen every 2nd or 3rd cut you use 3/8 .

the 460 cuts quicker with a 7 pin with a 24" bar and over but is quick with a 20" bar and a 8 pin rim .

the 460 wears a 24" or larger all the time and the 261 has a 18" so i have no need for a 20 any more.

i used to go along with the no substitute for cubes but not any more just look at car raceing around the

world these days big heavy donks are out with tolerance's and tech the way it is they have power touqe

and reliability just look at the v8 supercars there only small blocks put a big blok in one of them and they

would handle like a bucket of ####.

got mate here with comadores with supergharge's and mate drive one of them and you will neverlook at

V8 again man they pull and have good fuel econ when cruise'n.

cheers D

opps forgot the vid

Yeah ants. Up here you get hollow stringys with dirt inside from white ants so semi chisel is the go
Chisel if fine on clean wood but even the bark will dull the chains.
I dont cut that much but when I do its either 2 saws or spare chains or chain and bar
Though lately I have given the saws a work out. Bloody storms, kinda like mini cyclones snapping off trees, esp when hey are hollow so big clean up for me.
Dont matter what you do, youi aint gunna win with hollow trees with soil inside them. Frigg*n white ants
Thanks for sharing
Wayne

In the automotive world a lack of cubes can be overcome with forced induction and even variable cam timing, pneumatic valves etc etc. We don't have that luxury with chainsaws which are a very simple engine design by comparison.
With modern chainsaw design and similar mods the larger capacity saws will always beat the smaller capacity saws all things being equal.
That's why we have still have race classes based on displacement even though the odd smaller saw gets a win due to better modifications, better chain, or a more tuned up operator.
Additions like M-Tronic and Auto Tune make saws more useable but don't actually give saws more peak HP, just a wider and more useable power curve with better emissions which is the main aim.

I know that fallers in Tasmania were using .404" as a preference over 3/8" in Stringybark simply to cut a wider kerf and it is also better for clearing the bark fibres from what I've heard. Neil can probably elaborate more on this as he was a hardwood faller dealing with Stringybark as well.

I'm with Darren though and when wood gets dirty .404" semi chisel is the first chain I grab.

Hope you had a good Chrissy mate. Glad you made it to SA and hope you tried some nice Coonawarra wine while you were down at Penola? Should have been nice weather down there.
