Filing a chain, I was taught if it takes more than one rock song your taking too long so about 3.30 minutes a chain oh Stairway to Heaven & Bohemian Rhapsody was not on the playlist.

If you smacked a rock with a 6 foot chain you'd be in strife.

Hi mate.Stihl recommend 13/64 for a 3/8 Stihl chain and Oregon 3/8 uses 7/32
Not sure on the stone bit.
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, How can I identify the chains as 2 were bought for stihl when I got the saw
And , well lets say I got them from the usa, cant remember who
Regards Peter

Peter, the brand of chain will, well, be branded :D

7/32-5.5mm files are fine on all 3/8 chain, it's just that you will get slightly more hook with the 13/64"-5.2mm file with standard file holders, which for the most part isn't a bad thing.
I sometimes use a 5.2mm file on 3/8 chain, particularly when the cutter is near the end of it's life.

FWIW all chain manufacturers other than Stihl recommend 7/32" files for 3/8 chain.

Thanks , I think I will go with the 5.5mm file as ive got the 5.2mm
Looking back on it , my brother inlaw sharpened the chains when in mundubbera and he,s got a husky 365 , he,s got one of those wheel grinders that bolt to the bench
Any way he used the same settings on his chains and didn't change it to do mine
I tried the file on mine today and the bloody file wouldn't even touch the cutter
Any ideas on how to fix this
I was trying to file it today with the file and guide, I gave up and all 4 chains have been sharpened the same way
Regards Peter

Dropped in and saw Benny (bennn*e) today on my way to Adelaide where I picked up my new Ford Ranger.
Holy crap he's got some gear.
Got a happy snap of only part of one of his displays. Managed to fit in a 441C, 261, and 660. The other little piddley saws up top really didn't get my attention. Picked the 461 up and threw it around a bit. Sort of want one now - I shouldn't have touched it. Benny also offered me a good deal, the bastard. Stihl have a $300 cash back going too...

Also these new Rangers are an awesome bit of kit. The one I picked up for work is the 5 cylinder 3.2L turbo diesel with the 6 speed box. The engine isn't exactly what I call snappy or super responsive but it pulls like a train. Drives beautifully too and only used 1/3 of a tank in 300km (not sure of tank size - hope it's not 120L :D).
Because it's a fleet vehicle it was fitted out with a few aftermarket bits like ARB bull bar, Lightforce spotties, etc etc. The idiot who hooked in the spotlights has retro fitted a switch in the dash. He obviously didn't do it at night because I'm copping a reflection from the switch off the windscreen and off the side window, straight in front of the side mirror. A piece of black electrical tape will stop it but I'll forward this picture to the dealer so he can pass this bit of info on.
The only issue is that it is saying a door is open which it isn't. I therefore can't lock it. I only found this out after I'd left it for 4 hours in a shopping centre car park - luckily everything didn't get pinched out the back! I'll take it to the local Ford dealer tomorrow to have a look.

Note the 2 reflections from the Spotlight's switch (plus the open door light on the dash...

Andrew - where do these things sense that a door is open? I can't find any exposed switches as per a normal vehicle. Good job though on these utes though, they're a weapon for sure

Nice one Matt
Turn the key on to assesorys
Open each door and use a pen as in pic to mimick the door latch locking thingy, dash door light should go off.
To remove pen use door handle to open
Go around to each door and check them all.

Matt you dont wont a 461 they are the wrong colour and they are turds.

Hey thanks for the tip on the door switches mate

I'll be honest in saying that if I could have run 9mm bars on that last 660 I had I would still own it. Even if I did lust after a 461 or 661 I probably wouldn't get one just because I run about 20 x 9mm Husky mount bars and I don't want to get a whole heap of new ones just because of a few upstart Stihls :)

Also good reason to sharpen regularly.

I need to get some more decent files as the free Oregon files I got are a bit sad, and the local saw shops round here all only seem to have Oregon, not any of the better brands.

Matt, I'll tell you why you don't want a new Stihl and it isn't a clashing colour scheme or the wrong size bar slots.

Flippy caps.

There. I've said it. The elephant in the room. The Emperor's new clothes.

How you survived handling a 200T with flippies is testament to your intestinal fortitude, but I doubt your poor overtaxed nervous system would cope too well with more flippies.
For an educated man of your sensibilities I don't think flippies are to be trifled with.

Andrew just doesn't know any better, and well, Benn*e is a lost cause. OK, he has a vested interest too :D
Actually, look at Andrew, look how many saws he has in the same model and ask "why ?"

Why indeed ?
The insidious, perfidious flippy.
The flippies have perverted his sense of reality into believing he needs not just more Stihl saws, but multiples of the same saw.
Bloody sneaky little flippies. :msp_sneaky:

Admire the Stihl saws in Benn*e's showroom, even fondle them, but place them back on the shelf, go home home and cuddle your Husky and Dolly saws knowing that they don't seek to control you with evil flippy caps but will continue to support and nourish you with a simple, sustainable and beautiful design that goes back to and beyond Archimedes, the inclined screw thread. (that's Archimedes the ancient Greek, not the grocer down the street :p)

Yeah, can't sleep ATM :D

Mate, the dude that posted right above you can supply Vallorbe files by the box, which IMO is the only way to buy consumables like files. ;)

Interesting aprasial of that situation, Rick. Well if Matt has ever used a macullock 6-10 full noise in any real situation he would be totally hooked on yellas.

Therefore would not even glance at another saw shop of other breeds, this comes with the superior attitude passed off by the yellow saw after perlonged use.

Rick,, that little job, needs to be done soon as I start shifting in about 2 months, once a contract is signed I will only have 30 days to be gone from up the hill.

Nice display Benn*e, looks like a well presented saw shop.

I'll give a you a ring soon Neil.

Off to the physio today to get this knee checked out.
It doesn't feel too bad this morning, we'll see what the expert says.

This was Monday arvo's job.
Why the f*&^ blokes decide to burn something off, without a permit mind after he was told to get one, when we haven't had rain for a month and decent rain for two, the summer grass has all hayed off and he just lit a few logs in the middle of the wire grass to get rid of a dead sheep.
This is an old TSR which is covered with cow pats too....
It started about 200m off to the right of that photo at the base of the hill and was 150m off to the left in a gully and about to race up the next hillside into an adjoining Thoroughbred stud.

I think he'll be receiving a letter from the RFS. ;)
