any of you fellas tried the led spotlights that you mount under the eves of your house, just wondering what they're like and all seeing as the power bill will be going up shortly, thanks to our gov

Yeah they are good mate. Getting some as we speak to take the place of some 150W floodlights the previous owner fitted.

Bee suits kick arse and to be in the middle of an angry swarm of bees after you've cracked open their hives scares the crap out of you to start with. Even though you know you are pretty well bulletproof they still start emitting this completely different "angry buzz" when they are going all out to kill you. I used to wear Rigger leather gloves taped around the wrists and I've had my gloves looking like a Porcupine at the end of a day with literally 100's of stings hanging out of them.

copy that I still get Heebie Jeebies when they get grumpy even with suit on I feel unnerved. I'm planning a move a big box of wild bees out and into a hive box but not got the courage just yet as they go nuts. Try being 40 foot up a EWP bucket with a angry mob all around crazy. I been stung though soft gloves over hand a few times past year and now wearing heavy gauntlet gloves but you loose a lot of feel. The little bastid will sit on your suit back or head piece out off sight so when you take it off pow!

all this for about 2 jars of raw honey so far that's only 2 buck at Safeway

Goodie 303 shoot this weekend weather outlooks ok and I got the club 1918 gun lined up just for me n boy just need get some ammo

Yeah they are little mongrels like that. I've jumped back in the vehicle, looked around and haven't seen that any have gotten in with me, unzipped the head of the suit and then bang bang. They sit there like little bloody ninjas until they see an opening then out comes the "attack and kill" pheremone and they all hook in at once. The unnerving thing about their attack pheremone is you can smell it and I think it's in our genetics to instantly know we're in trouble even if we've never smelled it before :D

Good old three oh's. They are a great calibre. Makes me want to whip out the old No 4 as we speak just for a fondle :)

I got 500w flood light atm ,want to go to led but what wattage in the led is about the same?

Tricky one mate. If you use a simple watts to lumens conversion and type in LED (Watts to lumens (lm) conversion calculator) then it says you need a 30,000 lumen LED light to get the same output as a 500W floodlight.
That's a lot of light and I'm not sure if that calculation rings true but that's all I can find on the good old Google :)

Just found this so looks like an LED rating of around 30W will emit 30,000 Lumens...

I think I confused myself...

I just replaced my old 150 watt globes with 15 watt Cree LED , heaps more light and uses 1/10 of the power

I got them from here PAR20 PAR30 PAR38 E27 Cree Dimmable LED Light Bulb Lamp 9W 14W 18W 24W 30W 36W | eBay

I bought a sensor solar light for my carport from here 54LED Solar Garden Motion Sensor Security Flood Sheds Lights | eBay

Now if I could just stop my kids from having their PC's and TV's on at the same time :dizzy:

Some technical smarty like Rick or Dave will come along soon and make the whole situation easier.

Sorry Aussie Dave but I meant the other Dave :)

Nope, David will have to answer this one, lighting is well outside my comfort zone.

Hell, what am I talking about, day to day living is often outside my comfort zone :D

[edit] FWIW a few of the Landy boys have fitted 7" round LED headlights instead of (illegal) HID inserts from JW Speaker in the US.
These are full MIL spec with (I think) virtually bullet proof lenses, etc.
Stupid exxy ATM but supposedly the thing that will replace HID systems as no delay for ignition, etc. and super low current draw.

no experience with house mounted and long range, but I recently but a LED portable work light. Same size as those 500-1000w yellow jobies from Bunnings, cost $100 but worth it as #1 it doesnt get hot, infact it hardly produces any heat, you can touch it after hours of continious use no problems and #2 globes arent an issue like the yellow jobies that break literally daily. Light is very white which is good for my eyes. I would say brightness is as good, but I do wonder about the range ie how far away from the lamp will it spread?

As for $$$ consuption, I would have thought wattage is wattage, if you have a 500w halogen, vs a 500w LED, are they not drawing the same current? LED will be better if not just for the heat factor IMO

lucky he has the beard, I couldnt see him for the camoflage clothing......

Someone I know far too well used to don full AUSCAM's plus flight gloves, plus scrim or a shemagh plus bush hat and sometimes proper cam and and always full webbing including pouches plus bum bag and if it was any longer than a day....... :msp_unsure: :dizzy:

The nomex flight glovers were frigging good, they make excellent saw gloves too as nomex is pretty cut resistant but unfortunately the stitching's all come apart on mine. :(
They're cheap as chips these days, and there's some excellent tac gloves on the market too that are kevlar/nomex and/or spectra. Spectra is the stuff used in police gloves for body searches to prevent needle stick injuries so I reckon it could be handy around a saw too.

here is the spot light I bought:

Iron Horse 16W 40 LED Portable Worklight - Bunnings Warehouse

it is 16W and is about the same phyisical size as the 500-1000w halogen. AFAIK, watts are watts and that is power draw. I come from the up bringing of thinking watts was brigtness, like the old 100w globe is brighter than the old 50w globe, yes it will be but thats a by product. When comparing Halogen to LED I think we need the lumins for each to be fair, then compare the wattage for current draw.

btw I am no sparky and think that electricity is black magic!
