so in a similar way that soil pH (power of hydrogen) will change nutrient availability in the soil

Is that like potential hydrogen ;)

Bit of a dispute over that one but never seen any soil based text books or soil scientists calling pH "power of hydrogen", only ever seen that terminology on the web.

So what spectrum is best suited to my, um, tomatoes?

I don't know how correct this is but just comparing apples with oranges(LEDS and Halogens)I think 80-100w in a LED has about the same lumen as a 500w Halogen flood light.........

power of hydrogen is the German phrase that pH was derived from

the potential of the H+ ions in solution is what most call it
It is a measurement of H+ concentration
however that is only true for dilute solutions were the H+ is completely dissociated
were the solution is above 0.1 mol per litre it is less reliable

most use
pH=_log10[H+] is therefor wrong

true pH

pH=_log10[1/aH+] where aH is related to the hydrogen ion concentrationcH+ by the equation
aH+=fH+.cH
Where FH+ is the activity coefficient

I can go on and on I love pH

Al, I slept through qualifying last nigh t ! :(

Must stay awake for the race tonight, must stay away for the race tonight....

Scuttlebut is that George is going to attempt to race after having his collarbone plated yesterday in Barcelona ! :msp_ohmy:

I haven't seen the quals. I'll go turn it on now.

His little nuggety mate on the Honda might not match George in raw talent but he is a threat, enough for Lorenzo to consider racing aye?

Ah well another also ran if ya can't be the winner you may as well stay at home in bed at least he would have had a bit of company amongst the losers

unfortunately bob ,if every one thought like that ,there would be no racing of any sort, what a boring world it would be.........

Heh heh. I think you may love pH just a bit too much David ;)
While you're sitting there with your lab coat, calculator, text books, and pocket protector I'll just use my calibrated pH meter to get the same result :D

Was bored and decided to check in here to see what our mates in the southern hemisphere were up to. Wasn't expecting guys to be discussing the racing that went on last week 20 miles from my house.....................or indoor recreational "tomato" growing horticulture....:hmm3grin2orange:

You Aussies want me to let ya know how Marcos does today, or do you want to wait till the TV signal makes it there next week? :D

For those of you that follow him in NASCAR, I'm one of them Earnhardt fans. Grew up watching the old man, been a Jr fan since he died, now watching the Dillon boys coming up through the ranks.

Marcos stands a good chance of winning on an oval this year if the Petty boys can put enough car under him. Dude is a flat out wheel man, I like watching him. As a Chevy guy (Holden in Aussese), I am forbidden to cheer for him though.
