So, does anyone know what Mr. Eric 'Ekka' Frei did with his saws? Who knows what's up with our old buddy? Has he and his BFF Lopa started another gig together, somewhere?

Not too many people care what happened to Erik. He wasn't the smartest bloke on earth after banning most of his members :)

He's trying to say that the only good McCulloch was actually made by Sachs Dolmar :)
and somebody is mighty proud of it

Serge, thanks mate

on another note, actually chainsaw related, has anyone else been watching these new 3D printers and started thinking about using them to build new bits for chainsaws?

Haha yes, so many printing possibilities and law enforcement is going to have a tough time controlling it. Printing certain types of metals is the next big thing. Hmmm so many ideas floating around in my head o_O

I wonder if devcon would work :D New designs in piston/cylinder would be fun to build, even if they are just plastic to begin with, should be able to send them off to make a cast

I'm still trying to imagin that V8 fergy cutting some capers. I can only work on 1emaginational thing at a time.

To put it bluntly he is the world's most awesomest arborist (in his own mind), and yes he was another forum owner until his forum shut down. If he didn't agree with you you'd get banned (which didn't help when he didn't agree with anybody!). He was also one of those knobs who thought you had no right to touch a chainsaw unless you were a qualified arborist, and owning a top handle without being a climbing arborist was akin to molesting a 2 year old. I saw him interviewed once on the TV and he seemed like an OK sort of guy but online he thought he was God, but quite often acted like Hitler - it depended on whether you licked his arse or not (he absolutely loved people who kissed his arse because it made him feel special!). I know a few arborists who were members on his forum and they say he is technically very smart, particularly on tree pathogens etc, but they still thought he was a di*k.
He's one of those funny type of guys who face to face I reckon you could have a beer with, but online you hoped he'd fall out of a tree from 40m and land fair on his head.

I still remember one instructional video of him on Youtube cutting down a small Palm. The second it started to fall he took off like a scalded cat - if I reacted like that to a falling 12" Palm I'd be ashamed to post that video. It wasn't a hard fall either. To me it showed he wasn't as comfortable falling trees as his experience and qualifications would suggest. He seemed like one of those guys who'd be a great instructor but couldn't do it to save himself. Online anybody can be whoever they want to be. He used to list all of his relevant qualifications in his sig and he came across as one of those "professional" uni students - eg: spends all his time studying and never actually works.

I mentioned this gay arsed Palm falling video a few years ago on AS and he brought it up on his forum so it showed he regularly visited other forums as a guest to "spy". If I remember correctly he was banned from AS. I got banned from his forum after an argument ensued about importing saws. The thread was started by Tony (kiwibro on AS) and Erik actually piped in saying that any more talk about importing saws would get the thread closed. He also brought up something about one of my "US mates" where I was getting my saws from so he knew more about my business than the average AS member. I have saved that whole thread as I got banned, Tony copped a temporary ban, and the thread got closed. Tony gave as good as he got

yea but it would have to be an imaginary build just now,,, isn't it a beauty but, I hope Caine can find some more pics of it.

I gotta catch up with the guy that built it at some stage for other reasons, so ill take some pictures of the furg if he still has it around

thanks for that, now I know where not to go if it ever reappears again and the above statement rings true once again.
Sounds like another one of those who can talk the talk but fails miserably to walk the walk.

Had an interesting story today from my old neighbour with the farmland where I've been shooting roos, emus, and goats.
North of his farm is basically nothing but scrub as you can see by the attached images. He is at the back of his farm yesterday in nearly 40°C heat and out of the scrub comes some bloke riding a brand new BMW road type bike looking for help. Turns out he'd decided to take his missus for a tour (she was on another new BMW) from Peterborough through to Mildura. Mildura is about 200km away from where he appeared. They'd got lost but managed to find a track to follow but his missus (on her L plates) ended up that knackered that she collapsed trying to get up a sandhill and couldn't ride any further. He dragged her under a tree and left 8L of water with her then spent hours out in the middle of nowhere looking for help. Apparently she'd had a few cracks at this sandhill judging by her tracks and stacked it a few times before she became too exhausted to continue.
My neighbour rang the cops and when they arrived they managed to track down where she was. One of the cops rode her bike back while the other cop took her to hospital in a pretty bad way from exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. My neighbour reckons the bloke was blaming his GPS but the women was very apologetic and quite embarrassed about the whole thing. She was 33 years old and the bloke a similar age. A GPS is all that probably saved their arses out there and at least gave him a direction to ride towards. There are very few mapped roads out that way (hardly any roads or tracks at all actually!).
As you can tell by the images there is 2/5ths of stuff all where they were riding so I have no idea what the hell they were thinking, especially riding around in that type of country where all you can see is mallee scrub for 360°. They were bloody lucky they actually found a track to follow as there aren't many of those around. You could be 50m away from help and not even know it's there! It's pretty inhospitable country north of where I live.
Just goes to show that not everybody can be the Leyland Brothers :)
