I have both 6 and 10 ply full wraps, the 10 ply gets used in the arena only for the speed races (to hot for the rips). I have read a number of threads where people have reckon more is better on the layers, to many cons I reckon with wearing them in a work environment, ie heat exhaustion and decreased mobility. Price wise they cannot be beaten.

I also heard from a guy in Europe that square ground chain is illegal to sell over there because it will go through chaps a lot easier than round ground. He was importing square ground from the US.
From what I've heard he was actually correct as even though Stihl make RSLK in Europe they can't sell it there.

Matt, I have worn out many pairs of chaps (lost count a long time ago) and have worn just about every brand there is and I have found Labonville to be hardest wearing ones I have come across and last I knew they are still being manufactured in the states (Gorham, New Hampshire) no issues with quality of their gear

Hey I'm certainly not having a crack at Labonville, not at all. I'm just saying that I've had no issues with the Stihl ones plus you can try them on before you buy. Chaps aren't a problem but when you buy pants I'd hate to spend a few hundred bucks out of the US to find they don't fit properly. I've had Labonville chaps before and they were excellent but still tore easier than the Stihl pants. Not as bad as Husky or the no name brand I had that came out of Canada.

 The lower legs ant a problem theres bones there its the upper area thats the problem cut the main artory under you sack, inner thigh and you will blead out in about 15 mins,my sacks no good to me these days so in not worried about that.
I have had probs with chaps and sticks gettin stuck in the straps around the back area.

I'm not sure if I want chaps or pants. My safety tracky daks are are not going to cut it

Good chaps make sense if your on off saws and not pressed for time work in heat, Pants are on and hot heavy all day once over 25c you start to cook.
A Q? is zipper of velco of snap fasteners,,, I prefer velco on lower leg avoid them zippers they fail foul or bring grief.

Hint can go full nude yup you think bout it you'll be so very careful with yer tackle hangin out

My concern about chaps is that if you somehow hook the side near your calf they'll potentially roll the material around and still grab your leg. Some of the full wrap around ones are OK. The thing I don't like about the chaps is in brushy stuff the straps hook everything plus you get a heap of woodchips stuck between the material and your legs. Damp eucalypt woodchips stain fabric like a mofo.
The Labonville chaps I had were these ones...

***Not sure if these are the better Labonvilles or not.

The Stihl chaps are all summer weight now according to Benny. Aparently Stihl used to have Winter weight pants and you'd cook in those. I've worn the Stihl chaps like in the link above in some pretty warm temps and although I'm getting softer in my old age :) they are way cooler than normal chaps and shorts. Your happy bag doesn't boil in these.
