Runnin' saws = always havin' a good time!

Gary

I took the top out of two decent sized water oaks today...One was over a house, and one was over a fairly busy road...Took me all day to get both trees to a point to where they can fall safely....I can't get my knuckle boom truck or my skid loader in there to get up the wood,so tomorrow it's gonna be cut-n-chunk all day long.I thought about ya...and man I'm dreadin' tomorrow like my next bout with food poisoning...Oy yeah, and three of my guys are already layin' out on me..It'll be a good workout if anything.

I might reneg on the always havin' a good time part myself...

Did 4 Dougs and a big Hem today... and the property owner had a drainage issue with a pond he has, and there was no way to get a truck or anything back to the trees. Water and muck everywhere. Friggin' cut-and-chuck for me too.:help: The 2 biggest Dougs are still layin' there. I'll be back out there tomorrow doin' the same crap. Not a fun day at all. Sloggin' through 2 to 3 inches of mud and crap just to get wood out.

Anybody wanna job???:dizzy:

Gary

I guess this is the reason I can still bench press 365 pounds, and I haven't been in a weight room in years...But the older I get,the more it hurts...If it was just cuttin' I could deal with it,but throwing that wood into that dump bed with high sides...:buttkick: :bang:

I hear ya on that dude... I'm prolly in the best shape I have ever been in. With the exception of when I was settin' chokes as a 16-17 year old kid. I was in friggin' shape then.

This line of work will keep the body fat of'n ya too. I have tried to go to the gym and "workout" but it is just boring to me. Now humpin' 100 pound hunks of Doug Fir out through mud and crud after fallin', limbin' and buckin'... now that's a WORKOUT!

Gary

I've got this young dude that works for me,he's a little bigger than I am,no body fat,He's also a pro off road dirt bike racer,I was once too,but now I race the Vet-Pro class just because I'm old enough...Every now and then I kick his tail at the races, and it kills him....But when we have to chunk wood,he can't even keep up,and that kills him even worse...By noon,he's done, and he's only 24...This is the first time he's ever had a job like this,he didn't grow up in the woods like we did.

Yup... I see it on my end too...

What sucks about that damm water oak is it's one of the heaviest woods in the US.And it dulls chains quickly.By the time I get those logs cut up,I'll probably have worn out two brand new chains...And go through about five gallons of gas...To mention, all of the paint will be gone off of my brand new guide bar:bang:

5 gal. on one tree? Holy crap. I went through almost 2 gal. today, and that was on 5 big trees. I guess my 044 is a bigger gas hog than I thought.

One 395 and one 660 running all day long....The 395 holds more gas than the 660 and will empty the tank in about 20 minutes...The 660 will last about 25 to 30 minutes of constant running...It's not just one tree,it's two...And it rained last night,so this outta be fun:bang:

Same here... I'm not a happy camper this mornin'. One of my guys called in already... not gonna make it.:bang: So it is just me and one other dude. Yee-haw!

Anybody wanna job today?

Check in with ya later...

Gary

I got within a mile of where we were workin' this morning...and the bottom fell out.....I tried to be a soldier and work in the rain, but it was coming down too hard...So now I gotta waste a Saturday over there...I was supposed to take my son fishin'..

DONE! Got the last of the @%$**&%@ Doug Fir out of the "swamp" today. At least it didn't rain. Tired, wet, and hungry.

Gotta clean up and head to the g/f's place later tonight...

Hell dude... maybe we should change the name of the thread to the "Timberhauler, GASoline" thread.

We might as well...
I really wanted to get those water oaks done today as well...As much as I was dreading doing it,I wanted to get done and over with at the same time..So now I've had all this time to think about how much I don't want to go over there tomorrow.....That is a job where I would have quickly and politely pointed the customer towards another outfit and walked away from...But now that my wife ain't bringin' home a paycheck no more for a while,I have to take on everything that I get. She's only been on leave two weeks now and I miss her working.......Since I didn't get to do anything else,I did get some jobs bid on,and guess where I'll be working next week......Up in the mountains on the side of a steep ass bank.Seems like ever since she went on leave and I decided to not turn any jobs away,I've been gettin' all these "fun" jobs....I still haven't decided when I'm gonna go slam that big poplar...I'm puttin' it off as long as I can get away with it.

I failed to mention that I'm glad you got done with yours at least...It's a good feeling to have a job that's been kickin' ya' tail done with.

I haven't had a job wear me out like this one in a long time. It would have been a lot easier to get a truck back even 100 feet away from the wood. But we were about 300 feet back from where we were cuttin'...

Half of the last Doug we did today (butt end of course) was sittin' in 4 inches of water. The pond is fed by a small natural spring and since the runoff drain was clogged up... the water kept comin' up. I was wearin' hip waders today to finish this job... What a biotch!

Glad it's done. Once you get those oaks done... have a beer on me dude!

Gary

Luckily I don't have to lug all that wood too far...About 75 feet. But it's up hill. And the wood is just big enough to where I'm gonna have to quarter it up to carry it...Thankfully that job I'm doing up near the mountains next week I can get the loader in there and do what I gotta do...I'll just have to make very precise drops on all the trees and I have very little room to manuever around..At least there will be no chunkin'
