Hey timber I just started cutting up a 5' plus poplar today yes its a lot of work. It was already down from the big wind storm we had out here. Tomorrow ill be starting on the lower section with the 066 42" bar full skip chisel. Will be the first extended use of the 66 should be fun. And yes it has a 3/4 wrap handle like any respectable PNW saw would have on it.:D

Whoa!

You big timber fellers are speaking jargon this midwest firewood cutter boy is lost on! I have a lot of respect for you guys and what you do, but I have a question. I feel that i was well taught and fairly proficient at tree felling, and I know my limitations. But I drop a 60'x 18" oak in the middle of nowhere and I gotta drain my adrenaline tank and squeeze my jewels out of my throat and back down to my mid section! It is amazing to me what you guys do day in and day out! I guess i'll stick to construction. As for my full wrap 2100, it mostly keeps it from tipping over in the back of the truck! REPS to all of you!

Good post. I think most everyone gets that adrenaline rush when they drop a big one...regardless of what "big" means. When you plan it out and things go just like they're supposed to there's only one other thing I can think of that's as much of a rush.:hmm3grin2orange:

I enjoy the skidder stuff!!!

this is what i use in place of wedges and a tree jack. thought u guys would enjoy!!!

Nice picture that you posted. I have seen the new JD Skidder up close, they are pretty nice. Right now I am attending school to become a heavy equipment technician. Most of the "vocational" offroad equipment really interests me. My instructor always jokes that the people that operate skidders are completely nuts!!!! :hmm3grin2orange: Operaters always drive them like some kind of beater 4wd pickup or something. Believe it or not I discovered that Kenworth made a skidder at one time. Pretty rare! Anything offroad is cool stuff to me!

I've got a poplar tree to take out sooner or later that is nearing five feet in diameter, and close to 175 feet tall...I've gotta fall in between two houses as is,because the top is dead and I'm scared to climb it....I haven't started on it yet because I dread doing it...It's all gonna have to be cut up and hauled out by hand, there is no way to get a loader to it..I haven't had the heart to tell my guys about that one yet.

Aw man, used to hate it when one boss I used to work for would spring one these things on me. He bid out this one B. Poplar 66" x 100' between house, garage, concrete drive and powerlines. And oh yeah, stone cold dead. No bucket, crane not even a loader, T/D and complete haul away. We were a small outfit with '60s FMC Wayne chipper and '59 F3 dump truck(this was in the late '80s), all climbs. I coulda killed him for under-bidding three other outfits for that one.:taped: I got 'er down ok w/o bustin' anything, including me but man my shorts needed changin' a coupla times. Nothing more disconserting than when your gaffs are locked into a piece bark 6' long and half the stem dia sheds off trying to carry you off with it. It rained deadwood across the block with each leader I roped off. I HATE big dead poplars, if someone asks for a bid on one these days the price is double. It still baffles me that anyone lets these monsters get so big in a residencial setting.:dizzy: :taped: :bang: :bang:
