Through 6/09 the entire market for handheld power equipment was down 6%. During this down market period Stihl sales were up 2%. Thats a 8% swing showing Stihl is outpeforming the market.

But didn't Stihl pick up a few thousand Deere dealers between first half 2008 and first half 2009?

I wonder how their same store sales did during that period.

Not that I know of. They claimed 8000 plus dealers before the deal and still claim 8000 plus dealers now. I don't know how many JD dealers took up the Stihl line, many already had it. They didn't have to if they didn't want to.

That deal was mostly corporate in which JD would advertise Stihl as they're preferred brand of small power equipment. Stihl in turn would from what I was told would share the marketing costs with JD. Efco was the one that got nailed in that deal by JD, they lost out completely building anymore equipment for JD and badging it JD in green and yellow colors. Stihl got a sweetheart of a deal when JD came to them, Stihl didn't go to JD like many have assumed. The biggest thing out of that deal is gaining brand reconition worldwide for both makers.

Far as sales go and who is weathering these hard times the best its hands down Stihl. One out of every 6 handheld power tool sold in the USA is a Stihl. Considering all the differant badge name brands on the market in the USA 1 out of every 6 is quite remarkable. 60% of all concrete saws sold in the world is a Stihl, they have destroyed the competiton in concrete saws completely. People wonder where do these numbers come from. How does Stihl know what the others sell and how do the others know what Stihl sells. These numbers are compiled by the Outdoor Power Insititute that montiors everyone.

Whatttttttttt????:Eye::Eye:

So Tommy the Tool ;)......What exactly is Stihls point, with this soon to be released 50cc hotrod?

Ya know there is a old saying, speed and thrills are temporary. Just had a visit yesterday with the rep and we were talking numbers. He gave me some very interesting ones that tend to prove speed and thrills do little in the big scheme of things. Through 6/09 the entire market for handheld power equipment was down 6%. During this down market period Stihl sales were up 2%. Thats a 8% swing showing Stihl is outpeforming the market. So while those 5100's and 346's are zipping through the wood winning the little battle of thrills Stihl is winning the war..

Now I'm gonna go out in the shed and pacify them both and warn them, a new hot rod 50cc Stihl is in the works and they may both have to get out the shed before long,LOLOL

Brad's not the only one waiting. How long you thinking it could be before it's out? I'm in no need for 1 my 260 is a great saw, I'm just curious to see the specs.

I'm a Stihl guy at heart. So I'm anxious to see them come out with a new 50cc saw that will put them back in the race in that size saw. The 260 just doesn't hold a candle power wise to the 346 or 5100. Oh, it's a good saw, it's just way outdated in power and filtration. Make me proud Stihl, make me proud:)

Brad,

Come on Brad. You know pride has NEVER been your short suite. :hmm3grin2orange:

Fast,

Why the interest? I'm SURE that the new Stihl 50cc hotrod would be out of your price range.

ole joat

Why NOT?.....I'm as interested as anyone to see a new hotrod Stihl.....I don't dislike Stihl saws Joat and I can afford them. I just choose not to, when there's just as good or better for far less. ;)

I'm actually just trying to comprehend Tommy's forked tongue speak!

Fast,

Wait a minute! I didn't say that "you can't afford it". I said it was, "out of your price range". You have repeatedly slamed Stihl as being too expensive and/or overpriced. You like the lower price and value of Dolmar. That's fine. Makes sense to me. I see nothing from your posts to indicate that you'll abandon the value pricing of Dolmar for the top shelf Stihl.

As far as understanding Tommie, I'd recommend you listen to Elvis and pick up a book or two that explains Southern Culture. Be warned that it's not as easy as it appears.

Close, the very first race went like this:

And Adam bit the apple and his eyes opened. He saw before him Eve for the first time, standing there in her naked glory. He screamed get back, get back, I don't know how big its gonna get. A race broke out and the chase continues to this very day.

Shoot, there's a lot of truth in that statement :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:
