Heck with it.

Filled the garage up with blue smoke and stink. We'll add bar oil and try it on my new test log in the morning.

My new test log.

Neighbors are, literally, going to get a wake up in the morning.

Run something with a stack Carl!:D

My C5 needs a good long run.

Getting back on topic:

Due to a ignorant (deceptive?) evilbay seller, I am still short two recoil springs, a pair of 'D' hole fiber washers, the preload spring, flat washer and 'E' clip for an SL/PL-4 Fairbanks-Morse recoil starter. The 'magic fingers' style.

Why is the recoil spring the first thing borrowed from Remingtons?

Please point me in the right direction.

I have one more source here locally to check, AAA Small Engines.

The donor saw has the cup and a nice grill/guard. No cover, so no rewind. Wonder if other makes would work, not much different than my 045.

... A Homie C5 starter is the place to look for the small bits...

i've got a spare C5 starter. problem is it came with the spring broken about 1 - 2" from the inside end. i bent it to fit the slot but didn't heat it. haven't used it since so can't vouch for if it will stay working for long since i got a replacement. still haven't gotten the saw up and running yet; still acquiring parts.

Just wanted to say thanks to 8433Jeff, Eccentric, and Mr. Bow saw for their generosity. with out them i wouldnt be getting this C7 running...should have lots of fun boxes to open in the next week or two! Fiance is gonna catch on fast that ive been spending money!:hmm3grin2orange:

Will start a new thread soon on the C7 rebuild

Tell me more.....

Chris

Jeepers, that thing looks heavy. Even the bar mount appears to be made from structural steel channel iron.

Not enuff light out yet and we have a couple inchs of snow.

That's a McCulloch D-33 Le Sabre. It is the direct drive version of a model 33 "watering can" bevel gear drive saw. Strange stuff indeed. A few guys here (including Mark H of course) have them.

Here's the Acres listing:
Model Profile: D-33 "Le Sabre"

I heard some dude makes these out of cast magnesium... the dude that makes them lives in Canada, from what I heard...

There's some pretty odd guys in Canada for sure.

Yeah... left hand chainsaws, magnesium bras... what will they come up with next?

Me uncle is from Canuckland too. Weird fella, that one is... :D

Okay... guess we need to go back on topic...

Anyone else got old mag saws to trade/sell? 3... 2... 1... GO!

I got the pleasure of haveing Wayne Sutton explain the hows and why's of the Le Sabre to me. In a nutshell, without misquoting him, McCulloch seemed to be caught with its pants down during the explosion of direct drive saws so they came up with this abortion to try to tide them over till they could come up with something better.

I have a Mac 450 I just acquired. Missing the clutch cover, muffler, starter and some other stuff. It has a nice front handle, compression, good piston and cylinder, carb and box looks clean. Needs cleaned, couple parts, fuel system service and will probably run.

I'm in Seattle on business and don't want to ship it home.... somebody need something from it, preferable the whole thing?

Well it gets better. I found a better parts saw to send you.
The fuel tank is in good shape and has a good fan cover cover.
No piston or cylinder on this one too but you did not need those parts.
I should have this on its way to you tomorrow.
