too hot to trim?

If I remember correctly, photosynthesis decreases considerably above 80° F and therefore is less than ideal for trimming.

First time I ever folded work because of the heat ...

We've taken two days off because even I am not mean enough to make my crew work in heat like this. We have a brush clearing job and a removal coming up, I'm pushing a significant trim job (15 trees) into next week if this heat keeps up.

It was hot, cut my left hand open with the Corona Handsaw, shouldve gotten stitches. We worked in the shade deadwooding a Shagbark Hickory for a couple of hours and then started deadwooding a White Ash which is when I cut myself just a little past the knuckle on my index finger. Didn't wuss out just bandaged it up and worked a few more hours before we wrapped up. Had a breeze to blow the sweat off me, stayed hydrated, saved the Hickory wood for smoking, and customer sent us home with a big platter of Buckeye Wings from their pizza shop down in Louisville which we promptly destroyed with some beer in the comfort of AC! Bet this hand is gonna hurt like heck when I wake up in the morning!

not worried about the crew

They are 3 small jobs approx 2 hrs each with about 30 or more minutes drive time between them we will be fine I just didn't want to kill the trees. Sounds like while less than ideal will still be fine. approx 10-20% crown removal

Kill the Crew, not the trees ...

They are 3 small jobs approx 2 hrs each with about 30 or more minutes drive time between them we will be fine I just didn't want to kill the trees. Sounds like while less than ideal will still be fine. approx 10-20% crown removal

I've got a small job today too. Even the crew is ready to sweat it out after two days off.

We have backed off ourselves, we are right in the middle of this crap. Took 2 off , went back out and wished we stayed in, just not productive when you have to stop every 5 minutes to wipe the sweat off your glasses. We had alot of ground work to do, so the chaps were busted out, ya know, the black ones!:blob2: Kinda feel like a farmer, always complaining about the weather!

I've been down for family visits and equipment acquisitions. Perfect timing. I have worked some night shifts in the shop to "make up" for the down time. Trimming the home place up for the landlord now, and will get to his place too. It's handy to take a break whenever and not worry about anything. AC is getting fixed in the pickup on monday so at least there is a place to get some relief on the jobsite for the rest of the summer. It's a safety/productivity issue otherwise.

I used to bust it on the row, with or without AC, and the productivity is marginal either way. The best I could do mostly was that I used to fly while the other guys chilled, and then cool out while they chipped. And took turns with the only other guy I could trust in the bucket. It was the only way I could justify going out in this nonsense.

Trimming at least keeps you in the shade, removals can be brutal.

I think out here in the South West were more adjusted to the heat, and like they say its a dry heat out here. A little advice though you probably already know, is drink water, lots of water. You can't drink enough when it that hot and your working. Cover your head if your in the direct sun, and I ware long sleeves when its really hot, it'll keep you cooler as all that sweat evaporates off you. You lose a lot of potassium as you sweat, Bananas are a good source of potassium, Lose to much potassium and you can start cramping up. Best advice was already giving, sit in the shade and drink the beverage of your choice. Beastmaster

put in a 13 hour day in the 102 yesterday. minus the throwing up around 11 it was a can of corn. lol. at least i got to run the crane to get out the heat. gotta love ac in the cab.

Worked till 5 in the heat yesterday tried to call it quits after our first job should've only taken us till noon and we rolled out at 3;30, boss wasnt having it though he 'promised' the other customer wed be there

I would take a dry heat any day! Tired of feeling like you are swimming. Buddy of mine cracked me up with his comment the other day "Dude, I swear I just saw a duck go by in scuba gear!" That was funny! I wear two t-shirts and that helps wick the moisture away normally but not in this heat/humidity!
