Ok, I must be as dense as a stump here, when I see the term "walkerized" (e-bay, here, etc...) Who/what is walker, is he/she a member here, and whats done with the saw to make it "Walkerized? Thanks-Matt

Walker is a saw shop in B.C Canada. they modify saws kind of like sending your saw to dennis or ken except i don't think they do quite as much

Thats cool, I had no idea, and the only reason I ask is I saw a "Walkerized 372" on ebay, and I remember seeing that term on this site. Thanks-Matt

They are a excellent shop,I'm still waiting for my Walkerized muffler to show up for my 385XP.....

Later Rob..

Rob(STIHL MAGNUM) ,please post a thread after getting your 385 with the muffler mod completed. I have been checking out this site (ARBORISTS) for 1-2 wks. so as to compare some of the huskys vs. the stihls. I notice that stihl doesnt give any RPM ratings on their web site. There is also the talk of the torque vs. rpms.On walkers saw shop web site I like the look of the torque on the 385 as posted on their mod. chart. One advantage stihl has over husky is the use of 2 piston rings but I am leaning toward the husky. A local tree business uses husky & jonsereds but says will go with all huskys eventually because its hard to find anyone to work on the jonsereds locally. All pro-stihl & pro-husky users feel free to reply

I have no absolute proof, but I have heard (here and on other boards) that Walker's dyno charts are not always accurate. Spend your money based on numbers on a chart if you like, I'd rather base my decision on actual productivity and how I like the saw. When I'm cutting, I'm not racing against anyone. But I know that I'm more productive with a saw that fits me rather than one that shows higher numbers on some chart based on highly subjective dyno results.

I'm just saying that the saw with the highest numbers won't necessarily equate to the saw you are most productive with. An extreme example would be the Predator. It's the fastest saw in North America, but you couldn't go cut down and brush out a tree with it very fast. Getting the job done is what counts.
Almost all the pro saws out there today are close enough that the one you accidentally ran into the dirt a little will be the slowest cutting.

Get what works the best for you..remember to factor in weight ex: carrying a saw in 3' of snow @ 9,000' uphill, and dragging a tree behind you. These are things I think of when choosing a chainsaw. In addition, I have noted that Sthil dealers downplay the huskys with the "one ring" thing. I have a husky 372Xp, and guess what 2 rings, I also have a Stihl 041 with 1 ring thats 20 years old, so dont let them fool ya!-Matt

I have no personal experience with Walkers and certainly harbor them no ill will, but for the extra hundred or whatever it is, I'd send the saw to Dennis or Ken rather than Walkers. Amortized over the lifetime of the saw, the extra money is nothing in comparison to how much better and more efficiently the saw will run. It's really a no brainer.

Brian,
I believe the Predator has now transcended the "North America" thing. As far as I'm aware of, the Predator is the fastest saw on the planet. John Lambert may beg to differ in repect toward his 088 KD, however.

Hi Treeclimber, the Walker`s dyno charts may not be entirely accurate but in my opinion they get you in the ballpark in terms of baseline performance and relative gains after mods. According to the dyno chart that Walkers provided with my 346, my peak power rpm was raised abit and the peakpower range was significantly broadened. By seat of the pants verification against another new bone stock 346, I would say that their numbers told a true story. I only have one Walkerized saw, the 346, but I will have more to see if they are all as an impressive improvement as my 346 was. I can`t find any faults related to Walker`s work on this saw.

tree_reaper, fun_chopper nailed it when he spoke of the Stihl attitude about one ring saws and there lack of memory regarding their own one ring saws. I could be mistaken, but of all the current Pro Huskies, the only two to have one ring are the 335xpt and the 346xp. Frankly, the one ring thing doesn`t hold any water unless you are talking about Homelites or Poulans anyway. Like Brian, treeclimber165, said also, the highest hp saw is not necessarily the most productive. I remember your dilemma from your post at "that other site" and stand by my recommendation that you consider a saw smaller than the 385 for what it sounds like you will be doing. A 357 or a 372, with a muffler you modified yourself, would kick some behind against the 310 or the 365. Considering the closeness of the cost and weight, I would go with the 372, possibly my all time favorite saw. Russ

The Walkerized saw will be more than most woodticks will ever need or want. It is much better to learn how to file and use your saw safely and properly, otherwise its just a waste of money.

GYPO, I NOTICE YOUR ICON IS STIHL BUT YOU ARE USING A HUSKY. BTW JUST HOW SNAPPY IS THE THROTTLE RESPONSE ON A STOCK 372?

Hey, T-R-
In case you have never posted in an online forum before, you might want to know that posting in all caps is considered shouting, and most people consider it rude.

Hi tree reaper, the saw was a real champ, RB is now the proud owner of it, so it now lives in Wash. State, U.S.A.
It is real fast on the throttle if you run it to factory specs.
The pictures are from a bush I took down 2 years ago.
I have now moved on to a different saw builder, not because I was disatisfied with Walkers, its just that I want the most I can get out of a woodsaw, so I now use a 385, 066 and 088 built by Ken Dunn.
I move into a bush tomorrow, so I get to try the 385KD, so stay tuned ok?

Hi Brian, I guess TR was just overly enthused while he was typing. I guess I made that mistake in the past as well.
As far as the Stihl vs. Husky thing, my bottom line preferance is with Stihl, but I do groove on the Huskies as well. They both have pro's and cons, but I refuse to bash either, except to irritate the onesided thin skined Huskybarny folks. :')
It takes years to really make a fair judgement call one way or the other, but they both are great saws in the hands of someone who knows how to use them.

Tree_Reaper,

I will post a thread on the 385 when I get the muffler back and installed.I like this saw alot it has excellent power and torque to pull big bars I have mine set up with a 32" power match and 72LG chain.I especially like Huskys anti vibe compared to the Stihls. From what I hear they are also one of the best saws to have Dennis or Ken or anyone to modify.I can't remember if it has one ring or two I'll look today and get back to ya...

Oh yeah welcome to the site......

Hey Gypo let us know how the 385 does I very interested....and that ladder on the back of the skidder man you must have some big balls...

Later Rob..

Gypo, I was also wondering about that ladder on the skidder. Do you have any pics? I'd love to see some.
