I took the saw over to the shop yesterday to go
ahead and have the cord rotor and the muffler gasket replaced. I did run the saw after the mystery part came out and it ran fine. Then the rotor cracked.
The mechanic and I both looked all over the saw and didn't see anywhere that it could go. Because it ran fine after it came out and we can't find anywhere that it went, we came to the conclusion that it didn't belong to the saw.
If I get different news I'll make sure to post it.
