carb looks really clean, and the diaphragms were still somewhat soft but the pump diaphragm had quite a bit of fine sawdust in it.

interesting saw to start. I can't get it to pull thru on the ground with my foot on the handle. drop pulling is fairly easy but it ripped the starter out of my hand a couple times. hurt like hell lol. figured out it's like my CR500. pull the piston past TDC and it likes me.
got a little clutch creep.
Oh yeah ,you definitely want an Elasto start handle.

I have an elasto start handle on my 441 parts saw but the rope is thicker and a lot shorter than what's on the 044.
on the carb, I have high needle all the way out (3/4 turn) and the low needle out 1/2 turn (3/4 is max). I guess that's all I can do as this has the limiters??
It's up to you as to whether the limiters stay in place. I suspect that most here would advise you to get rid of them. There are very good reasons to want to tune the saw outside the range imposed by the limiters.
I've removed them from other saws, but these are recessed in and did not want to pry out. decided not to break anything until I heard the right way to do it. I'm in Florida at sea level if that makes any difference. when I did the carb kit, I usually remove the needles to clean but these were not coming out.
Here are two approaches to that type of limiter:

When you pull the first one out the plate will come out with it. Then take the second one out and then place the plate back in place. Give it a gentle tap, to lock it in place.
There's a small tab on the side of the limiter , you can shave them off and reinstall them if you want?

ordered an OEM 3.5mm elasto start cord from ebay for the 441 handle to put on the 044. I think this is a good idea.
so, as mentioned earlier in this thread, I have this 044 parts saw...
crankcase halves are in great shape. crankshaft is beautiful, big end rod bearing is tight and smooth. both crank bearings are bad.
Nice , Id look at building a wild big bore or a n 046 top end on the case , for fun.
