I have come to realize that what i did up in the forest was wrong. I owe it to you guys telling me what i had done was actually illegal. This came as a shock after hearing folks in town talk about cutting wood in the forest service, and seeing folks cutting wood all the time. When i went up into the woods that day i figured that i would try my hand on felling a big one thinking that someone would come and haul it off for fire wood when the snow melts, and on top of that they where dead. As soon as you guys started preaching to me on the consequences of what i had done, i started wondering how valid my friends parents info really was. The forest service gave me a visit today which confirmed everyones preachings and my growing fear. I do apologize for what has happend, and am here to say don't cut on the forest service or any other land that isn't yours. Make sure you know every detail before cutting or removing anything for that matter.

There's a link in the "Thread Tools" dropdown box (if you've got javascript enabled, otherwise you'd have to search the page source for it) to "Show Printable Version". Maybe that's why the thread disappeared; they didn't want you deleting your posts?

Making this post took some intestinal fortitude. :) I'm glad to hear that you've learned something. Other than accepting responsibility where due, that's the best thing one can do when a mistake has been made.

Furthermore, there are three things you want to keep in mind when you've done something "the man" thinks might be wrong:

don't say anything
keep quiet
shut up

I agree about this thread starter. Congratulations; that took/shows manliness.

Interesting. So someone here ratted you out? What the kid did was wrong but geez!!

So who's the HAIRPIE who squeeled?????

Maybe nobody squealed but instead a USFS employee happened to see the public discussion on their own.

I doubt anyone said anything. First of all, consider how many hits this site has every month. Secondly, consider that we have people reading from all over the world. Thirdly, think how many people work for or know someone or is a relative of someone who works in the forestry department. I doubt anyone said anything--I would bet someone from the forestry department reads this forum. Don't you find that likely?

Spacemule, all it would take to rat someone out is contacting the police
I realize that. I'm merely proposing that it's just as likely that one of the forestry service workers who we're bound to have reading this forum saw it firsthand. Not to mention, I think most police departments wouldn't even bother looking into a complaint made on such basis from outside their jurisdiction, and most people aren't going to go to the trouble of contacting authorities in the first place. But in the end, is how the incident got reported even relevant to anything? Well, yes it is. We can all learn from this and be reminded that this is a public forum, and everything we post is going to be read by people we don't know exist. Eh? :)

I pretty much agree with the other members, there are enough members on this site, and enough guests that I would not find it hard to beleive that at least one is a USFS employee. Hopefully 056 only got spanked real good and learns a real important lesson. And yes, I will applaud him for making the decision to come forth admitting he made a mistake. Takes alot of GUTS! :)

I am not exactly jail bound, but i am going to get alot more than a spanking. Right now fines and a summer of planting trees in Burns looks like the punishment. As for how they got the info, i think that someone gave him the info.

better than doing time in a Fed Pen! Count your blessings and learn from your mistakes! :p
