Hi folks. Lurker for awhile and now willing to take the plunge. :help:

I have decided to purchase a new saw in the 70 cc class. I have the big three dealers close and they are all within $10.00 on the Dolmar 7300, Husky 575XP and the Stihl 441 Magnum. All dealers are within 12 minutes with the Stihl dealer being fantastic and the others, pretty good. So I have decided on a Stihl. I cut about 10 cord or so a year along with a lot of property maintenance (over 100 acres). I'm opening up fields and lots of trees in the 10 to 24" DBH range. I currently have an Echo CS 346 and a Stihl 026 with a muffler job. Great saws but have decided to add another.

So the big question: Would it make more sense to get a 440 Mag. and mod the muffler in a year, or just take the plunge and go for the 441.

Thanks for the input.

440

All day with a BB kit from baileys and watch it walk over the dang husky all day...

Buy a 372 and watch it walk all over a 440, 575, 7300, or a 441.

On your best day with a 12" bar on my 7900 you still couldn't beat that saw with a 372 dude. We already tried it. It wasn't even a close match. There's 372 power, and then theres real power. :notrolls2:

Matter of fact, I'll get a vid of the 7900 running against a 288xp this weekend. I think you'll be surprised.

The 7900 should beat the ol' 288 - at least according to specs......

Please do a search on anything relating to a 440 vs. 441 comparison.............been beat to death already!!!:sucks:

Much agreement, this topic has probably been discussed more here than at the stihl factory in Germany. :bang: But since I am here I would vote for the 441 over the 440, better anti-vibe and quicker response in the throttle. As for dressing it with a 24" bar that is a whole different 100 page thread. ;) Mine wears a 20" bar and is very happy.

I have an 044 (440) and love it. I believe I could cut a brick house in half with it and it never loose power. That being said many on here who own both the 440 and 441 say the 441 is better. I have never ran a 441 but would love to, I would proably be selling my 044.

Thanks for most of the responses. I have done the searches and read for hours. I am not a professional user and understand a little anti vibe may go a long way for 10 hrs a day 6 days a week. The new saw will probably never get worn out. My total tree count for it per year would only be about 12(The rest my 026 can handle). If I could save a few dollars with the old tried and true, and it would do all I wanted, great. This is a lot of money and I was looking for a little input.

Thank you.

At that amount of cutting, I think you should consider a used saw.....

I know this topic has been pounded into the ground over and over.

The 24" bar was my main concern and I am planning a trip to another Dolmar dealer next week to try out the 7300. It may be a little better match. I know the 7900 is only a little more $, but I'm not sure I need that much power for my application.

I sure would like to run your bottom 2 saws just once someday. Running Daves modded 357 is something, can only dream what the 9010 and 088 are like by DN.

Tact.

FWIW, I say go with the 440. Maybe even a 361. I can't see going with the whiz-bang new stuff right off the bat - let the early adopters sort the thing out for a cuppla years. And when the discontinue the 440, you low-hour unit will be worth it's weight in gold to the old-tech hangers-on that STILL won't trust the 441. THEN trade-up to the then-proven 441 and be all smug about your forward thinking approach.

Good post, I recently chose the Husky 372 over the 441, for several reasons, even though the 441 cost a lot less than the 372 here - not beeing a "test pilot" is just one of the reasons.....:taped:
