Even with that sloped backcut, you can make a tree land where it's s'posed to my friend. It will bite you one day, and I don't want to see that happen to ya. You're too valuable here.

Gary

Well thankya. I've yet to have a mishap with that type of cut, not one ever. I had used the standard across the back cut many times in the past and never really had a mishap that way either. I did have a tree hang up once in another tree with that standard cut and the thing kicked back off the stump like a rocket. I like that back wedge there to stop all that or slow it down. R Never had a tree jump that back wedge or come close to it. Its all to their own I say. I've never once said a word on this site about someones sawing. Everyone to their own I say, be the old standard method or whatever works for ya.

 :welcome:

Not everything to do with trees revolves around chainsaws you know. Some-one just posted this today.

:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

Well cool Ekka, ya got a member overthere, high five to ya ole boy. You should be overthere greeting your members instead of overhere fooling with me. Hahahahaha, I love it Lake. I was talking with Manual on the phone today right after I posted those pics and I told him people gonna go wild on that cut.

I was talking about Ekka's house, his website. Dayumm if I wanna go to Aussie land, too hot and too many critters.

LOLOLOLOL, I told you on the phone today it would cause a ruckess didn't I, LOLOLOL, I love it.

Yes it did,
To be honest about that back cut, I have seen where they slide right down the stump. But if it works for you then nothing I can say.
Just don't try it with a humbolt face cut, You would be relying on the hinge to hold the weight of the tree.

I know whatcha mean Manual. That ole tree went to the ground in a hurry. Was nothing to worry about on that one. He did show me some others work around there though and he wasn't pleased at all with it. He paid big money for a tree service to take out a few trees and they left the stumps one foot off the ground on one side and 2 inches on the other. Thats after he told them he wanted them level. So much for wanting. I'm going back outthere for some more take downs. Maybe on the next ones I'll do some trick work on the stumps and see how many fish I can catch,LOL
Niters ole boy, time to hit the hay here..

Dayuuum Thall, you stubborn ole cuss !!!! Take the advice of the tree men here and try to improve your technique. There's nothing wrong in trying to learn something.....;)

We all know you're the best sales man in town (after me of course, hehe), so let's keep it that way  .

PS. I just got a call from Andreas S.... to talk some sense into ya. Their best sales assett in the US should stick to his core business :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I thought the market was flooded for Elvis wannabes. :hmm3grin2orange:

Maybe Hoss can give him some pointers with the cutting :hmm3grin2orange:

i've never cut a back cut on a 45, nor do i remember a tree coming off the back of the stump. i'll have to try to do both a let ya know how they work.
ok i found two pics from this winter, both dirty little beech's 20" dbh hung up, oh look straight across back cut and didn't pop off the stump, had to pull it off with tractor.

I guess that will vary with the type and state of the wood, and how much holding wood you leave......;)

A straight back cut 2" above the face cut "notch" will give you the same effect and is more efficient. You have more control with the saw too.

But if that's the way you do it and are comfy with it... let 'er rip...:D

Gary

If stump shot does occur with an angled back cut... the spar will slide right up the "slope" and kick out will be much worse.

Plus what John said... kinda hard to drive wedges in an angled back cut. The wedges won't be able to provide any lift, because they will be pushing against the tree, instead of driving it upwards.

Gary
I am pretty sure that is right..........:rockn: :rockn: :rockn:

....good point about the wedges.

I don't think the sloped backcut is a real problem with a front leaner, but it sure could be on a backleaner.
