EHP,

What causes a chain to jump up and down in the cut? Improper Raker Depth Settings? Differences in tooth anlges? Please let me know.

yes the racker is way to low
all i had for those small spline saws were a 7 tooth 3/8 gear
i never played with those small saws so why would i have a gear for it
the 346 on pipe was made to pull 14700 rpm in the wood
i know i could go higher on the rpm's but for someone that has never ran a nitro saw i thought it was high enough
so with the wood frozen and a 7 tooth gear it was over revving in the wood so i cut the rackers to help
it did but once i hit around .038 my time in the wood didnot improve and i had to push way to hard on the saw to keep it at the right rpm
so i hace ordered a 8 tooth gear which i think will be the gear i need but i ordered a 9 just incase
when i get them i will let you know what worked

what was fun was watching john's face when we ran the 346
he was no sure what was going on
i could tell he was looking to see if something was up and i was playing a joke on him but he couldnot find nothing
but after i guess we must of made 15 runs on it he knew it must be the power it had

well it look to me like,, ehp an john ,,will be the hosses to beat fer a while to come..
dont yall think.. wel,,yall stay warm somehow,,
ifn its possible uppare.:)

Just wondering hear did John have my "brewski saw" reworked or is this a new frame?

Could somebody tell me what makes the 7900 such a good saw? I'm not asking rhetorically as I have no personal experience with one. I have heard that, out of the box, it might have a hard time besting a 372. One on one, using timed cuts with the same log under the same conditions, reliable sources have it being "blown away" by a 385. We're talking 18 seconds versus 14 seconds in a particular log, here. Other than potentially being a more reliable saw (of course, no one has probably owned one long enough to know), does the 7900 really cut the mustard, or is this just another one of those "sheep following the herder" type of deals.

Hey John,
Just curious here, but what kind of relative cut times are we talking about. After all, considering these are all modified saws, that's an 85cc saw up against a couple of 100cc units. Now, the 999 notwithstanding, a well-modified 2100 should beat a well-modified 385, right? What's up with that?

well hear we go
i will most likely get shot
for this
we were cutting 11 inch round popular
the 999 was 2. 8 to 2.9 seconds per cut
385 was running 2.45 to 2.50 seconds per cut
088 was 1.8 seconds per cut
we geared the 088 up to a 9 tooth my bar and chain
we were then in the 1.20 to 1.25 second but i know with a 10 tooth it would of gone faster
we never ran a stock 346 that day so we donot know for sure what it would of done
all video tape to make sure we timed them right

Doug, In regards to your questions about the 7900. I have ran both the 385 and the 7900. While the 385 MIGHT have slightly more speed in big wood, the 7900 is hands down a better saw. Its much lighter, has a excellant filtration system, good ergos, and is much cheaper than a 385. I Know mine is close to the 385 powerwise as I have ran both on the same day. I havent ran any timed cuts with the same chain, bar etc. Frankly, I dont see the need. Even if the 385 is faster, the 7900 is still a better package for packing around the woods all day. For the $600 or so dollars they cost the 7900 is a very good value.

hey john have you got that deere john fixed yet or do i have to come down there and fix it for you
did you take that grease fitting out yet to see if your axle bearing is still there

Gypo
( I have a new, untouched 357 and 346 sitting in P.A. as we speak. Would that feather the nest against the 346EHP, or am I on glue? )
You must be on glue, both of those used saws are finished an they have been for a few weeks.
New?
Both of those saws are use and that is how you sent them with me, not new!
When adequate funds are forwarded I will ship them out to you.

Doug
There is a lot of talk about the 7900s abilities. It wont do any good for me to tell you how they work, obviously you know.
Just buy one, put one in your hands and then tell us how it works.

999
A few weeks ago, it ran great. Gypo had a video of it cutting. I guess it slowed down since that time.
Sometimes picture are worth a thousand words.
Maybe someone will put it back up.

Ed,
I'm really glad you decided to join this site. Finally there is someone besides Rotax and myself that can post real numbers from timed cuts with Lambert's saws. Most of the numbers that John posts here might just as well have been arrived at by throwing dice at a log. In general, I think John's nature compels him to do whatever it takes not to offend anyone and this certainly includes posting ficticious times. This isn't necessarily convenient for those of us who sit here with baited breath waiting for the results, but I can appreciate his motivation.

Ben and Dan,
Thanks for the info. My consideration of the 7900's virtues was based soley on numbers and internal configuration. In the real world of actual woods use, your points are well taken. I've had one in my hands, but never run one. I will have to try it out in the future. For now, however, I think my next one will be a 357.

so there never was any cuttin with an
346,,. usin nitrous,, that still got my attention.oh well the post was about 7900s anyway so im outa here.

yes we cut using the 346 on pipe same log and it cut 1.12 to 1.15 seconds everytime
no nitrous
nitro methane and alcohol for fuel
that was with a pipe on muffler it is in th 1.55 second range
i said we never ran the stock 346 which maybe we should of

thanks
i video just about everything so i can time it when i am home and when you are running a saw sometimes it is hard to hear the motor when using a pipe but on video you can hear everything
so when i build a new saw it gets timed and if i t doesnot cut the time i want i scrape it which has only happened once so far
you get timed by the watch so you might as well build by the watch because if you donot you are going to die by the watch

they do exist in canada
it is just that makita forgot to put them in the book so the dolmar rep says
if you wre going to miss a saw i think that this saw was not the saw to forget

Speaking of Dolmars........ Dozer Have ya had a chance to work on it yet??
Gott'er Dunn?

I just BWalkerized the muffler on my 7900. I was actually supprised as it picked up quit abit. I matched the muffler to the barrel and cut the whole bottom of the box out. I left the stock outlet alone though, as its quit large to begin with. Looks stock, but runs really nice.

Eric and Ben
Save your time and money. don't you know that those Dolmars aren't worth doing any mods too?
Later
One of me.
