Me Again.

I've noticed that Stihl on Models MS260, MS260Pro, MS290, and Ms310, lists a range of 16" to 24" of available guide bars. But, on these models, that I would be interested in, they recommend only a 16" guide bar. The Husky350, which is sorta in this range, comes standard with an 18 inch bar.

Why is this, I would have thought these model Stihls, would've had a little larger bar. Is it OK to use a larger bar than what Stihl recommends?

Thanks.

A Husky 350 will handle an 18" .325 bar just fine, so will a Stihl 026. MS310 ought to handle a 20" with .325 pitch chain.

I sell Jonsered, Olympycs and Solos. I put 18 " bars on all 50cc class saws unless they want something else.

Hi Junker,If you look in the Stihl sales folder,it say an 088 should run a bar from 20-47 inches. We all know you can go beyond that. But it also depends on what type wood you cut. Better,IMO, to be a liitle short as compared to a little too long when selecting a bar.Either will work, but it's easier on the saw with the shorter bar.Ask around at your local saw shop, they will give good advice.

personally in the 45-50cc class of saws i like a 16-18'' bar with .325 on it. if i'm using a saw that size then i want it hander and don't plan on cutting anything larger in diameter than the bar is long, if i have to cut more than that then i am reaching for my 046 w/20'' or my 066G w/28'' to let the chips fly!!!:D just MHO:angel:
