I sent Chevytown a desicription of how I get timing numbers. There are a few ways to do it, they all work. Port Maps work. Whatever method you're comfortable with. Learning to read port numbers, getting accurate squish readings, ect. are just basics. It's like a new carpenter learning to use a tape measure and T-square, but not ready to build a house yet. C-Town, keep working at it. I'll help in any way I can.

Ya I agree, many ways to skin a cat. I like Troutfisher's way of doing it. I tried a port map on my 371 and didn't like it, I couldn't get consistant measurments, I'm sure it was my fault, I just want something that is more fool(me) proof!!

Way to go. I like to see us all helping each other out.

Ya, I agree too, but I screwed up my first cylinder, went too wide, wasn't paying attention and measured wrong. And it was on a 395xp too.

In a roundabout way Thanks for doing that i learned loads from that thread and it made me more careful and informed for doing my 262XP, BTW I got the P&C back together today will do the carb kit tonight and look at the muffler and it should be good to go:)
Got the squish to 0.018" I can hardly turn the saw over the compression is so high with the P&C covered in oil!
Oiled the bearings and washed the whole thing out several times with mix.
Tomorrow it lives again! Hopefully:)

Looks like I missed the singing of "kumbayah"

Sorry Troutfisher, I thought it was troutman. I liked your idea because it was in tune with the one I came up with. So it was perfect. I'm going to find out what the stock duration is and go from there just for reference purposes. I was able to idle it around 2850 or so. It runs great. Can't wait to use it on brush. It seems to rev a little better too on the high side.

And even though we were in disagreement, I still kept my honor cuz that's the way I roll...

Thank you all for you help.

I feel like reading...The Little Engine That Could...

It has always been my understanding that modders meaure when a port opens/closes in degrees and then calculates duration from there. No?

it has always been your understanding? now im confused someone like your self that ports saws should know that before porting saws. so how do you set a degree wheel? how do you figure duration of the exhaust and intake? i cant wait for my answers
