When i was trying to improve my cars in the past i used a degree wheel to set the camshafts with an adjustable pully.
I used a dial plunger gauge through the plug hole to find TDC the gauge would dwell at the top and not move for a few degrees so you just watched when the dwell started and when it started to move again and split the difference on the degree wheel to find TDC.

See what happens when you start messing with the port timing on chainsaws? The social fabric begins to dissolve.....underneath all this perceived reality is a matrix that is apparently sensitive to port timing adjustments. Be careful gentlemen, lest ye rend our societal underpinnings.......

Kind of like global warp(m)ing.......:greenchainsaw:

I could give you answer, but I won't pleasure you with it. My work stands on it's own. I sure don't need your endorsement. Go back where you came from you cowardly mud slinging troll!

it has always been your understanding? now im confused someone like your self that ports saws should know that before porting saws. so how do you set a degree wheel? how do you figure duration of the exhaust and intake? i cant wait for my answers
troy

Here, you're saying he doesn't know how to setup to degree a saw, and you expect him to answer your questions for "proof". = RUDE

So the alky was making her run out like that huh? Yeah, it's my understanding you have to do some mods to the carbs to make them run right on alky... But then you can't run gas. I bet she's still plenty fast on gas though.

Yup. I drilled that carb every which way I could find. I could never get it to start good. If the damned thing won't start it's all over. I have 2 carbs, just put the gas carb back on and go.
