Johnnie: Use Locktite on a Helicoil to fix the stripped hole (12-24tpi ?) and a sanding drum driven by a die grinder to salvage that flywheel.
I will give it a try, just did not know if it would work on a flywheel. I am not worried about the physical appearance as long as the starter pawls stay put.
^^^ I've never thought of cutting the tree down with the saw, then taking the side cover off and using the flywheel as a stump grinder ^^^ :msp_thumbup:
Seems these saws had a problem with the starter pawl bolts working loose and bouncing around inside the cover, I found 6 or so folks that had the same problem. I am going to loctite the bolts when I put them back so it hopefully will not happen again.
thanks. i'd never heard of time-set or time-sert. this's already a successful day since i've learned something new.
I have been told that a time-sert is better than a heil coil, though I have actually never used either one. I will be using a heil coil since they are available to me locally.

pretty much done other than decals and carb kit, also, were the original stack mufflers painted black or left in the raw?

you gonna bake that paint or just let it air cure? gonna clear coat?

A word to the wise...that Dupli-Color is not fuel resistant unless you put a coat of clear over it. I used PPG Quick Clear with hardener on mine, of course I learned the hard way. If this saw isn't gonna be fueled up and used then it won't matter.

Yeah I iced it up with a couple clear coats, it's my first resto but it's gonna get run (my facebook friends that run the local Stihl shop were talkin #### but it's got a pretty healthy set o nuts). It's my personal opinion that restoring a vintage saw and letting it set and collect dust and cobwebs is pretty sinful

That Homelite company memo refers to 9 digit serial numbers and 8 digit serial numbers.... so my 7 digit serial number doesn't appear to be a fit with that numbering convention.

I would think the memo would have addressed 7 digit serial numbers too, but it doesn't.

Alright, got the carb kit in the C-52 backed the adjustment screws out 1 turn each, but it will only run for about 10 seconds with a shot of gas down the carb :msp_confused:

New fuel line and filter ? Impulse line (if it has one) ?

I'd guess an obstruction still in the carb. or metering lever height not right or kit not installed right (I've done that a time or two).
I'm not familiar with that particular saw. Sorry. Just throwing ideas at you.
