Are you sure that nut is on there far enough to lock? Looks like one of those nuts that only lock on the last couple of threads so you better check it.

I myself have bought quite a few times from Lance "angry beavers" and you cannot beat him as a ebay seller.

I just was working on a SXLAO just like that one tonight. I have had it here for at least 6 months and it seemed I checked it for spark and compression when I got it then put it on the shelf till I had time for it.

Got it out, cleaned it up, put a fuel line and carb kit in it, then found when I tried to start it that there is no spark on it now....

Looks like I need to find a electronic ign coil for it.

Im putting a module on mine. The saw had spark, got it to run a little, put it down to take it to the shop the next day to sell it. Then it wouldnt hit a lick, haha.

I swear this one had spark as I checked it when I got it, and it must have went bad setting on a shelf in a warm dry garage.

I wouldn't have went through the trouble of doing the fuel system if it wouldnt have had fire!

This SXLAO is super clean and low houred so I thought I would hang on to this one for old times sake since I cut alot of wood with my dad who had one just like it.

You should have heard the sound of that ole SXL and the Poulan 306A makeing music together.

That is one tune I have heard many, many times. That is a sweet sound to these old ears, dads brothers and my FIL were Homelite men and dad and I had 2 of the 306A`s , we cut in the same wood lot for many years together. Reminds me of Don Messer and his violin," Oh", the tunes he could lay down.

Armed for battle with those 2 you could put alot of wood in the trucks in a day. Notice I said "trucks" LOL

Darn tootin, I had an International 1800 series rackside dump that held/carried 5 cord cut and split, that was what dad and I tried to fill each day. Drop, limb ,buck, split and load, head for home. The others were lucky to get 2 cord each on the same day.

When I first started running forestry crews, I had 300 acres of pre- and commercial thinning to do for the state. We had a whole fleet of SXLs and SXLAOs that I wanted to use up before we ran the "good" saws (i.e. 044s, 046s, 372s.) You should hear 22-24 of those SXLs running in the woods at the same time. It's an unbelievable sound.

Never heard more than 5-6 at one time so 22-24 would be unbelievable.

I'll bet you had a hard time wearing them out. Seems they last a long time.

Had a few minutes today out in the shop, I pulled out 15 Homelite XL12`s and 4 SXLAO`s , the carb from the older XL12 will direct fit on to a Pioneer 1100 series saw. The LA screw from the Pioneer saw needs to be installed on the carb from the XL, the holes were there and threaded on the carbs I looked at, if the carbs came off the SXLAO they did not have the hole but there was an indent where the hole needs to be drilled out and threaded for the LA screw.Choke linkage arm is on the carb so a pull choke knob and a blankout plate with a choke guide hole is all that is needed to change over from the factory primer pump setup

Went over to Mark's yesterday and he was hard at work on his 'beloved' SXLAO. Had an XL400 points ignition in one hand and his dead SXL ignition in the other. Did some fitting and testing and backtracking. Found out you can't use the points flywheel with the SXL recoil housing. The fan hits the cover. Had to stick with the electronic flywheel, but then then the underside of it hits the points box. So....Mark found a fairly elegant solution to that and it involved his bandsaw.

After he fitted the Atom module, the saw fired up on the first pull. Pretty mean sounding little saw.

where?

so where did he mount the atom chip???? did it work good???timeing and all?????mark how about posting a breakdown of what ya did? i thought it was bad to mount the chip under the fly wheel because of heat issues?

See the mounting plate that is held on with 3 screws, two in the crankcase and one in the cyl head?

I took a steel strap about 1/8" thick and maybe a 1/2" wide and bolted it to the screw that mounts to the cyl head with it hanging down. I then screwed the Atom module to that plate which ended up directly under the coil.

Seems to work great.

It will probaly last much longer then those original Homelite electronic coil/modules. Seems they go out on a regular bases.

Just so you guys know that point ign coil would not mount on the original electronic ign plate. Thats why I had to hack up the original point plate.
