Its just a Super XL Auto that I was gonna fix for a guy. He said keep it, rather than pay $50.00 parts & labor. Ive got a new rim drive clutch drum coming in the mail. Replaced the fuel line (it was broken off at the tank grommet) and will fire it up tomorrow. I'll be sure to get a first start video.

And a crappy cell phone pic with bar.

good little saws---do you have other hom.saws

hi ya all!my first post on the homelite thread so i got two old homelites xl super automatic chainsaws over the weekend one no spark blue and white ...have some pics tommorow the other red they look almost the same ..red one with some cleaning and coaxing fires up i adjust carb and let it idle for awhile im in fla its hot right now any ways i rev it a few go back to the other let it idle i did not fill the tank so i shut it down go to fill tank when i top it off the gas is boiling!!!! i let it cool down few hours start it it starts runs ok i shut it right down!!!!is it normal to have fuel do that in these old saws????

knot sure if it is normal but I have a couple that do that try tuning down the carb or checking the ventilacion

hey thats it!

that looks just like the one i was just talking about that boils the gas does your do that?

run it rich?

so richen it way up or just a lil? i did not see a tank vent could that be it ? does it have it in the cap?

Boiling fuel is not all that uncommon, it has a much lower boiling point than water. Heat has everything to do with it, make sure the saw is clean, fins, block anywhere the crud builds up. Running a lean mixture will make for a hot running saw.

Mine isn't the xl but their should be a vent hole in the cap if not how many lines are on the carb---and just adjust a little till it runs smooth but not real smokey

thanks randy

that could be its really really dirty i have not taken it apart and blown it out at all yet! or done new lines i was shocked it fired up and ran right away fuel in the carb and a couple pulls its way dirty for sure i was thinking the boiling fuel i ran it to hot ??? thanks for all ya alls posts will let ya know how it works out!

not yet

nope i just got them last weekend it will be soon ... hey thanks for the help ive been using saws for a long time but never got to much into fixing them except carbs lines plugs filter on all my trimmers and saws as money gets tighter ive been working on them more and find it a enjoyable thing to do plus save money LOL... its always helpful to get info from others that have same situations thanks !!!!

homelite xl12

I have an xl 12 tha tseems to run fine except when i am cutting at full throttle it starts to bog down and if I let up on the throttle a bit and then open it up again its ok for a couple of seconds and then back to the same thing again. Any help would be appeciated thanks in advance.

I am newbie to this but I think that means high speed needle is set too lean...

What I read on some other threads regarding tuning was that if the high speed needle is set not under load you will end up with a saw that runs at max RPM not max power so the high speed needle needs to be set towards the rich side from max RPM to get max power in the cut.

I could be wrong but I am sure one of the guy here that knows WAY more about this will verify or tell me I am an idiot either way.

You will find everyone here is not afraid to say it like it is. Especially Gary...
