Some of us have been 'otherwise occupied'. You ever gonna going to get that S-550 running?:givebeer:

Thanks for the springs BTW. Got here yesterday. Liked the packaging.

I would if some of these other 'cool' projects wouldn't keep popping up.

I have all the parts for that one, I thinx. Maybe I'll prioritize it to the front of the line.

Glad you liked the packaging .... put a lot of thought into it!

Aaron - The S550 popped off prime this evening ... and is now on the bench. Recoil needs attention (story of my life) and a carb kit for the HL63E going on it has been ordered.

Sorry about the thread highjack, guys ..

I've got an old Super XL that I'm thinking is burning bar oil. From what I've read I need to check/replace the duckbill. From seeing a pic of the duckbill itself, it looks like it acts as a one way check valve.

So I know what I'm looking for, and what it does, but I can't figure out where it is supposed to be, or how to get to it. I've found several posts saying to check it, but can't find much more then that.

I'm also going to change the sprocket, bar and chain soon and was wondering what the generally preferred set up was. It's 20" now, and will probably stay that length, though I could see going 18". I put a stihl chain on it last year when I got it running again (after probably 20 years of not being touched) and it cut great until I got it too hot and now it won't stay sharp. The stihl chain did seem to wear the sprocket very quickly. The only bar I've seen available is the oregon bar and chain combo.

Thanks for any advice.

Finally got after a super XL Auto that a friend of mine gave me a month ago. It came with a bow bar, I took the b/c off, it popped on a little shot of gas directly in the carb. Took it down enough to clean everything decently, I think it was used to cut Christmas trees, it had a lot of pitchy buildup all throughout. Replaced the fuel line and carb kitted it. It is about 120 psi cold, not outstanding but fair. The cyl looked good from the top end, I dressed it up with a new 28" Carlton (Oregon powermatch) bar and a loop of 3/8" lopro chain, it is cutting nicely. The gas cap is missions the vent valve apparently, when cutting with the saw on its side, gas drips off the cap. Put the Timberjig on it and made a coue cuts with it, a 10' doug fir log. It did ok, though a little overdressed with the 28" b/c, it could be a keeper! The oil fill port sure is small on these things!

holy crap a 28in bar on a SXL!?!?. That seems a little bit overkill. a 20 is perfect, a 24 it will still pull fine but a 28 is a little much. You should post a vid of it in action.

Can anyone tell me if a drive cover plate from a C-5 will fit a C-9? Any help is appreciated!

I thought it should but every one I find says it will fit a C5 or C7 but never mentions the C9. It doesn't say in won't fit but also doesn't say it will fit. Wanted to be sure before I pull the trigger.

Muffler repair...:msp_w00t:

Saw this on eBay.

Great field fix. Solved the problem with the materials at hand.

Notice the attention to detail, rubber sleeve around the oiler line to prevent chaffing. But, did fall a bit short on trimming the excess garage door cord.:msp_ohmy:

they even put a nice "show room wash and shine" on it. nice

I hope that y'all don't mind a stupid question.

Someone here on AS once posted that the Homelite 650 was offered as a Craftsman 6.5. Can anyone definitively verify or discredit the above info?

I've never seen so much as a photo of a Craftsman 6.5, and my searches have came up with nothing.

TIA!

Definitively?

It's difficult to definitively prove that something never existed (easier to prove that it did). I've never seen ANY info (pics, IPL's, etc) on 50 series Homelites larger than the 450 (Craftsman 4.5-24) being rebadged for Sears. At the time that the 650 was produced, Sears was selling rebadged 85cc Poulan 5200's (Craftsman 5.2-30). I seriously doubt that Sears was selling 100cc Pro saws of any flavor in the mid 1970's. There was a nice 4.5-24 for sale a couple hours drive from me a few months ago. Wasn't able to get to it before it sold...

Here is my homelite super ez auto. Got it not knowing what I was getting as a cheap saw to take camping. Now that I know she is 40 yrs old and worth something I am going to have to buy another saw to have a camp sa so that will only make 4 saw that I will have. I keep telling my wife that 4 or 5 saws is not that many but she just gives me a dirty look an mumbles bad words about chainsaws ;)View attachment 298623View attachment 298624

Just aware of 3.5's (360)and 4.5's (450) in that series.

Aaron, sometimes I'm overeducated, but not very often :msp_rolleyes:.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been able to find any info confirming a Craftsman 6.5, but I'll still keep my :Eye:^:Eye: for one. I had a clean Craftsman 4.5 that went to Randy (Mastermind) & Jon in a trade.
