I knew when I saw your name on there that it was another Mac vote and I know that you know your Macs well. The problem with me is I've never seen any saws like the ones you have pictured. We mostly have farm saws around here because farms is about all there is around here. I would love to grab hold of one of those big Macs and take it for a spin and I've had my eye on one at the flea market I go to and may end up buying it. Like I said, I like about all the good big old saws and I even have a few Poulans in my shed that I like also. Actually I don't have any saws with a bar bigger than 20" unless you count my Dayton that advertises it's a 21" but I really couldn't use anything bigger anyway.

I have a Homelite Zip as well, just can't get it to run like it should yet. The saw I've had my eye on at the markets was a Mac 1-40. The fellow wanted $25 for it and it looked good and the man said it would run. The bar appeared to be a little rusty like a lot of the older ones that haven't been cared for. With a little cleaning up it would be nice. What do you think?

Like you said, those Homelite Zips couldn't compare to your Macs but I don't think they were in the same class plus I imagine they're a little bit older and smaller engine.

I have had more experience with Homelite so I will go with them.

Guido if i knew where you are in Richmond Va i would of stopped in to say hello left from there this evening around 5:45 just got home about 20 minutes ago and im bushed had to go to my distributor in Ashland to pick up parts cause there main frame computer went down last weekend and they are still down without computers

I told them i need those parts cause i have customers waiting for them they still did not feel the whole needing list

Oh by the way this poll is a multiple choice poll so you can pick both if you want

I also left a Question back on page 2 to the bottom of the page if anyone saw it and you can help on the answer i be much appreciated

I cannot separate the two - I love my McCulloch saws with their history, innovation and performance within the chainsaw industry. They have built some mighty fine saws over the years, with many 'firsts' being achieved by the company.

Homelite is another favourite, with their massive pro logging saws (7-29 and 8-29) of the fifties, and those wonderful 700 and 900 series gear drive saws of the 60's. Roll on with the 1050's, 2000's, 2100's, XP1100 - 1130, 3100 - 750! What a great line up.

I enjoy the familiar crackle of the big Macs and the throaty sound of the pyramid induction at idle of the Homelites that I own. Here is a pic of my Super 797 - wearing the incorrect coloured airbox cover, but a genuine 123cc's of power.

Americas finest - and I am proud to own a few of each.

Regards,

Chris.

The upright cylinder Homelites were some of the best chainsaws ever made. Not as heavy as they look, great balance, easy starting, simple and nice to work on. They will win every noise contest.

Pics didn't work for me...Just white boxes...

Back when both companies were making good saws, which one do you think sold more pro saws? Which do you think sold more pro saws under 70cc ( maybe I should have said 80cc), which sold more over 70cc?

Maybe the answer to these questions could be the answer to which is the best- maybe not.

Posted this before, but seems appropriate now.
