Here's a picture of Mike Sullivan, about to run his 500 Suzuki along side of him is Rolin Eslinger, at Grassvalley Ca. Soon after Mike bought a Rotax and put on a THF filed chain and started winning, at least in the 18" to 20" wood.
2 pic. Mikey Forrester, Matt Lentz, and Gypo's brother Lee Williamson, timing Jim Taylor running his Rotax. Central Point, Ore.

LJS,
I was at Grass Valley the year that photo was taken. Holy crap. It must have been 1993. That summer the Sthil Series started off in Grass Valley, then we went to Quincy to qualifty for the second Stihl Event at Mt. Shasta. I remember the night show at Grass Valley when they cut the big logs. For the life of me, I can't remember who won the big saw off on the 34" wood. I think it was Dennis Harvey, but I'm not certain. I really hate it that all those shows went under.

In the second pic, look how young Mikey and Matt. Further, I had no idea that gypo was Lee's brother. "Coach" as we call him, is my favorite person in Lumberjack Sports. I would do anything for Lee. He must have the biggest collection of racing axes in North America.

All the best,
Jamie

Hello Jamie the King Melvin won that event . Do you remember Jim Taylor what he had on when he made his cut that night?

Oh Sweet Jesus how could one forget. Thanks for the Memorys Tommy. Stylish, yet demure. Gotta love Jim. One of the greatest sense of humors ever.

Also, that was the most impressive axe throwing tourney I've ever witnessed. I think I threw an 8, but whoa it was impressive to watch all those throwers throwing at multiple targets.

By the way, the carnie food nearly killed me the following night at Quincy. I had a "bad burrito" and ralphed on the "Please wait to be seated" sign at a Restaurant in Redding the following morning. I just couldn't make it to the bathroom. It was horrible. Then I thought it was wise to lie in the back of Carson Bosworth's truck on my stomach as we went up I-5. Everything was fine until we turned off onto those twisty road to McCloud. As we pulled into the ball fireld where Rolin had the wood chop I ralphed all over the back window of Carson's truck topper. Matt Bush just wasn't quick enough to get that topper lid open. And once I started spewing he ran; all I can remember him saying, after I had heaved myself dry, was "ya got any left. Cuz, I ain't opening this thing til your done." Yep, I was into it that day.

Ahhhh.. .the memories. I love this sport.

all the best,
Jamie

Here's a couple more pictures from the Grassvalley contest. Rick Halvorson with his old Honda 250 hotsaw, that won him so many races.
#2 Is Rolin with his Yamaha 250 hotsaw. Check out who's standing behind. Penny, Terry, Lee, Adrian, and Melvin.

LJS,
IN the first picture, that's Lee Williamson behind Rick. In the second picture, that's me standing beside the springboard pole with the black hat. That's Carson Bosworth in the top right hand part of the picture wearing the goofy Green hat. Awesome pics!!! Do you have any of the chopping or crosscut sawing that went on there. This is bringing back some major memories. Melvin dominated everything there if I remember correctly, but Carson gave him fits in the underhand and the springboard. Simply amazing for a fellow who was so slight in frame (he wouldn't have weighed more than 175 or 180 then). Amazing. Awesome photos.

all the best,
Jamie

Jamie, here you go! Is that you on the tree? LJS

LJS,
Yes, that's Cliff Hughes on the pole to the left and me on the Pole to the right. That was the second year I cut springboards and boy did I suck bad. Yep, I'm sporting a pink shirt too. Dennis Harvey wasn't the only one with good taste. :dizzy:

Thanks so much,
Jamie
