Okay I wont mention my dealer had 42" bar on the shelf quick happy service couple chains and even tho he is an exclusive stihl dealer he had different colored saws in the shop. I think there were more none orange than orange one. It'll be our secret thall. And he was even ready to sell me a 440 from the 6 he still has.

Now a woman that could bend over backwards............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Well, I digress.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Husky guys will bend over backwards for ya

Hate to bust your bubble but when I went to buy my 353 (by the way colypticlogr that is a Hsquvarna) the dealer told me flat out that if I brought a Hq in for service that wasn't bought in his store that he would turn me away. If that's bending over backwards for me, well ..............

My local dealer (stihl, echo, couple others) is cool. Sometimes he has bad days and is short with you but he'd probably work on anything. He's got a ton of old saws out back I presume for parts? Regardless, he's cool and I go to him for parts and stuff ... and I don't own a stihl....

Most dealers around here sell Stihl's and Husky's..I can't say I've ever had a problem getting any of them to work on anything..I hadrly ever have anyone but myself work on my saws anyway..But I've never heard any of them not wanting to work on a saw they didn't sell...Most of them will take your business in a heartbeat.

policy

There is no need to be that rude about the policy. We tell them that we are a Stihl dealer , we have no parts for other brands, and we will check it out and get back to them.
I do end up with a fair amount of other brands, because I still do a better job of repair than many of the selling dealers do.I certainly would not think of doing a bad job on anyone's saw, but if it is going to get expensive, I have a serious talk with them. I too have had a few of those jobs that the customer had no intention of paying for afterward. i will have a good chance of recouping my money on a Stihl, not so on another brand. Most likely because a person in a Stihl dealer is not expecting to pay as much for another brand of used saw there.

If these dealers are really that bad, shame on them.

But there is also something to be said for not taking on more work than you can handle. I have larger dealers that have long wait times for repairs. How do I know this? Those customers took their saws from there and brought them to me.
I don't want every brand in the shop. I will work harder for my own customers to keep a steady flow through the shop. I do not care to be known as the biggest dealer around, just that when you buy here, there is good service to back it. Many customers say that is why they came.

Works for this shop.

I had no idea the saw business was so good you could turn away customers. Sounds like a shop looking for a quick way to go out of business.

Well, the place I referenced opened a 2nd shop a few years ago. I learned last month that they're planning a 3rd store.

The owner was once a landscapper and says that he went into business to better serve landscappers. I guess I'm back to this "homeowner" stuff again. If I'd only been interested on a 290, then ........:censored:

Which shop are you talking about???..I've dealt with just about all of em' in Greenville.

My dealers all suck... and I wish I never, ever bought a Stihl...

Could ya smell the sarcasm comin' off of that one!

Gary

Just to clear things up... I was bein' a smart ass... The dealers I have are friggin' awesome! No problems whatsoever. I am very Stihl biased, but the dealers I use sell a lot of Husqvarnas too. They also will work on dang near any saw you pack in.

I've been dealing with my stihl dealer since 94. He services most anything, but is upfront with customers that bring in old just that he thinks he will get stuck with. He asks for a deposit on those jobs. Makes sence to me. That stihl dealer is where I bought my 346xp used. IMO the saw shops make more money on service and repairs than they do on a saw sale.

Just to clarify my original statement

The dearler I referred to with the sign, just doesn't care if he moves, much less sells or repairs anything. My first and last experience with him. I needed a carb kit for one of my old saws that I was learning to bring back from the dead. He never got up, yelled at Frank to find this guy a carb kit. He turned his back and started surfing Ebay. Frank never showed up to get me a carb kit. I left and went to the Echo dealer. Been going back there ever since. They are always busy. The reason I noticed the sigh is there is a Gun shop close to him. I saw his sign while I was going to pick up some Ammo. It's all good, I'll eventually go to the auction for the place, because his parking lot is almost always empty now days.

Hey, maybe he was looking for your carb kit on ebay.
